Description

Would you like to explore the best places to ski in the Pyrenees? Then this all-inclusive ski touring week in Val d’Aran is just for you. We will tailor the itinerary to your needs and have all the logistics taken care of you so that you can focus on having a great time out on the snow!

The Pyrenees stretch for 500km and outline a natural border between Spain and France. The highest mountains are located in the center of the range, including Aneto Peak, which, at an altitude of 3,404 meters (11,168 feet), is the highest. Val d’Aran is located in this stunning area of high mountains and is a unique territory for ski lovers. Its special orientation ensures much higher levels of snowfall than the rest of the Pyrenees, making winters long and the quality of the snow exceptional.

3 natural parks border Val d’Aran: Aigüestortes, Maladeta, and Alt Pirineu. They offer a wide variety of routes to explore and you can enjoy skiing on alpine terrain, tree-lines, open valleys, peaks, all in an exceptional environment, and far from the crowds. Val d’Aran is also a rich destination in terms of history, culture, and gastronomy.

One of the world’s best ski resorts, Baqueira Beret, is located in the region.  On this one-week all-in adventure, a motivated local guide will show you why it’s gained the reputation of being a Freeride Paradise. Long descents starting at an altitude of 2500m down to 1400m comprising open easy slopes, forests, valleys, gullies, and couloirs are part of its appeal. Some of the best out-of-bounds bowls like Montgarri, Ruda, or Bagergue will delight you.

Below you will find a tentative itinerary for this exciting weekend getaway.  We can personalize it to tailor your preferences and needs. Keep in mind that we will spend 6 nights and 5 full days skiing in the area, but that you should account as well for a day of arrival and a day of departure.

So, are you ready for an unforgettable all-inclusive ski touring week in Val d’Aran? Then contact us now and let’s start planning an amazing trip together!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrival day at the airport.

Transfer from airport to Val d’Aran.

Overnight at Bed and Breakfast or similar.

Day 2: Ski touring day

On our first ski day, an interesting plan is to take advantage of the  Baqueira Beret ski resort which has some great out of bounds, and we can find almost any kind of terrain, from open slopes to couloirs, alpine or treeline. Some itineraries will require skins, and on others, we might ride back pulled by a skidoo. Our proposal is to use lifts to gain elevation effortlessly and access the best out-of-bounds bowls and valleys, linking some of the nicest descents in a single day.

We also make sure everyone is up-to-date on avalanche safety procedures, and we provide some tips to improve off-piste techniques.

Dinner is not included, but Vielha has many great restaurant options starting “early” (for Spain) with delicious typical“tapas” or tasty mountain food and local dishes. You can also enjoy some excellent wines and a lively nightlife.

Day 3 to 6: Ski touring days

The area offers endless itineraries to enjoy on skis, from treeline tours to alpine terrain and from couloir ski to open slopes, mellow or steep…it will just be a matter of your preferences and the guide’s choice, looking for the best snow and conditions.

Our guide has a deep knowledge of the area and the weather and will recommend the best itinerary according to the group, terrain, and conditions.

The guide will throw technical tips to improve everyone’s efficiency, as well as an interesting avalanche safety refresh.

A typical average day takes up to 6h, covering some 15km and 1300m elevation gain.

Day 7: Departure

Breakfast and transfer to airport depending on departure flight time.

We got a guide for backcountry skiing in Chamonix. The guide was excellent in fulfilling our wishes even though the viability was poor and snow layer thin. Our goals was to in a quiet nature area with not too many people. We ended up with 1000 meter gain and a ski through the forest over a 6 hour period. I was one of my best ski experiences.

We had an amazing experience with Leo. Not only did he take us to a great bouldering location, but he really helped with technique to use for our future climbs. He was able to accommodate harder climbs for my husband while making sure I was still able to climb as a beginner. It was also extra special climbing with a local. Would recommend!
