Description

I want to invite you to a 1-day climb in the stunning needle of Cavall Bernat. It’s the most emblematic needle-shaped peak of Montserrat and all Catalunya.

The Cavall Bernat lays in the north side of the Montserrat massif and in the westernmost end of the Tebaida region. It is a very famous peak not only due to its vertical walls of over 200 meters. Besides that, the Cavall Bernat has an important meaning for Catalonia thanks to the following highlights:

  • Its isolated position within the massif and the “airy” of its crest, make it stand out from almost everywhere.

  • Its length, elegance and climbing routes make the Cavall Bernat a top reference peak and one of the most coveted goals among the climbers community.

Please find here below the three route alternatives I propose you. If you need help to make up your mind, feel free to contact me. I will guarantee the best and safest option according to your level and skills.

90-meter regular route

Level easy-intermediate. Before 1935 this routes was impossible to climb until Costa, Balaguer and Boix did it. Those climbers could climb the dihedral on the south side of the rock.

The approach takes about one hour uphill from the Monastery. The route is 3 pitches long and the descent is done rappelling down with two rappels. One about 25 mts. and the other one 60 mts. long.

Punsola Reniu 240-meter route

Level intermediate. This route runs along the north ridge of Montserrat and it is one of its most wonderful tracks and a must for climbers. The technical level of this route is directly linked to the slope of the wall. Once you reach the last 2 pitches you will hang over the precipice!

Puigmal Route 255 meters

The “Puigmal” is an intermediate/high level route that goes up following the central crack in the Cavall Bernat’s north face. If you want to free it prepare to climb up to 7b.

As an expert guide of the area, it’ll be a pleasure to lead this climbing program. Please contact me now and book your place!

Meeting point

FAQs

What is the best time of the year for this Cavall Bernat climb?

The best season is the one you can come, but if you can choose, spring and autumn are the best.

Will the equipment be provided or do I need my own? Can I rent? How much is the approximate cost of renting the equipment?

I provide everything, and it is included in the price. You can travel light.

What is the grading for the climbing routes on this tour?

There are 3 possible routes to climb Bernat. The easier one is a V+ (French scale) or 5.9 (Yosemite). The hardest one goes up to 7b!

How can I get to the meeting point?

If you have your own car, I’ll send you the location. If you are coming with public transportation, I’ll pick you up at the closest train station. Arriving from Barcelona is very easy and cheap.

Can I join a group?

No, I’m sorry, I do only private trips, and for a multi-pitch climb I can only take 2 people.

What kind of previous experience and training do I need? Is this trip suitable for beginners?

You need to be able to climb at least V+ routes (French scale).

Mountain Guide

Right in the heart of Catalonia, well connected with Barcelona, stands the Montserrat massif; a mountain with big natural, cultural and spiritual significance that rises sharply to 1,236 meters from the top of St. Jeroni.

I organize guided activities and courses of all levels, and offer the possibility to discover this fantastic mountain accompanied by a professional certified guide.

Along with all these activities in Montserrat, I can guide you over all the natural sites of Catalonia and the Pyrenees, a region with a wide range of possibilities for trekkers, hikers, climbers, etc.

I promote the use of sustainable transportation (train, zipper, funicular) and the development of activities that stimulate in participants a feeling of belonging to the places he or she visits. This perception of belonging, as we work with feelings and perceptions, can perfectly be assimilated to a sense of spirituality.

Our main activities are:
Spiritual values of Nature for private, groups or companies
Rock climbing
Hiking
Via Ferrata
