Mountain climbing in Bolivia is, without a doubt, the best way to experience the incredible scenery and pristine landscapes of this incredible country!
Towering above the altiplano and Lake Titicaca, Chachacomani and Chearoko are two of Bolivia's most beautiful and iconic mountain peaks and make for a great adventure.
Rising to 6,074 meters (19,928 feet) and 6,127 meters (20,102 feet) in elevation, respectively, neither one is overly technical, but both require determination and a good level of physical fitness.
Starting from La Paz, we will drive north into the heart of the Cordillera Real. Once we've arrived at the trailhead, we will make our approach, visiting caves with ancient paintings and passing through large swamps along the way.
Chachacomani will be the first of the two mountains that we climb. This peak requires sustained, but technically easy, glacier travel and we'll brush up on our skills prior to reaching the summit.
Afterwards, we will take on Chearoko. This peak requires a bit of rock climbing and scrambling, but overall is not too difficult either, just long once again.
From the top of both mountain peaks, we will enjoy pristine and uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains as well as out over Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.
Once we've climbed both peaks, it will be time to return to La Paz. As we drive through the Altiplano back to the capital you will already be planning your next trip to this part of the world.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for this intense, but fun and scenic 7-day adventure mountain climbing in Bolivia!
If you like the look of this trip, but wanted to try something juts a little bit different, then I think you may also enjoy my multi-pitch rock climbing trips near Lake Titicaca!
Meeting point
After meeting in La Paz, we will drive to the trailhead and trek for 4 hours to Peñas Huellas Andinas, where we will see some cave paintings and practice our rock climbing skills.
We will trek on to the base camp, passing through large swamps en route.
We will hike up scree-covered hillsides en route to the high camp. In the afternoon, we will practice our crampon and rope techniques.
We will make the very long, but fairly easy glacier ascent up to the summit.
Rest at high camp. If the weather is bad any of the previous days, we will reach the summit on this day.
We will climb to the top of Nevado Chearoco via the southwest face before returning down the normal route.
We will transfer to either Peñas or La Paz and say goodbye.

Aspirant Guide
My name is Davide. I grew up in Belgium and started climbing as a child because my mother used to hide the chocolate on the highest shelf.
I've been living, traveling and climbing in Bolivia since 2009. I enjoy high, famous mountains such as Illimani and Ancohuma but also have fun on smaller, remote mountains: Jaqusiri, Warawarani among others...
Having noticed big rocks in my backyard in Peñas, I started bolting them with some friends. Now the village has more than 100 climbing routes.
Working as a guide I like to offer my clients an original and safe experience, combining a strong knowledge of the Royal Range with special cultural visits.
