Type of Trip
The Chilkoot trail is one of the more unique and special trails you can hike through in Alaska. This amazing route was made famous during the Klondike gold rush in the late 1800s. The trail is 53 kilometres long, and is not too challenging. Thus making it a great adventure for almost anybody, just as long as you are in good enough physical condition to do it. The trip will take 5 days. And each day will be full of spectacular sights that we have no doubt you will never forget.
Hiking along the Chilkoot trail provides a wonderful combination of natural and man made highlights.
Regarding the natural beauty of the trail, it includes everything that makes Alaska and the Yukon territory of Canada so famous, and so beloved. You will get to enter magnificent rain forests that are full of delicious berries and lovely wildflowers. You will also be able to gaze at a number of marvellous lakes throughout the trail as well, including the Crater lake, the Bare Loon lake, and Lake Bennett. Along with the sights, there is also the different types of wildlife you might be able to see, including golden eagles and bears. Just don’t get too close!
When it comes to the man made remnants of the Gold Rush along the trail, the options are amazing. They include a warming hut in the Happy camp, the ruins of Canyon city, and several large scales that were used to weigh the supplies of visitors to the Chilkoot trail.
It’s a wondrous thing to hike on the same trail people hiked on over a century ago in search of their golden fortunes. And while the circumstances of your hike will be drastically different from theirs, the beauty and adventure of the trail remains the same. So send us a request, and enjoy 5 days on the Chilkoot trail. You won’t regret it.
