Enjoy a wonderful view over the Moon and Sun Lagoons
Spend a great day hike just 80 km from Mexico City
I invite you to bring your family along and join me on a great day hike around the Nevado de Toluca, an ancient extinct volcano located at about 80 kilometres from Mexico City. Its crater contains two beautiful lagoons, the Laguna de la Luna (Moon Lagoon) and the Laguna del Sol (Sun Lagoon).
The Nevado de Toluca is one of the highest peaks in Mexico. The trail reaches a breathtaking height of 4680 meters above sea level, with spectacular views over the two lagoons and over the Valley of Toluca, Ajusco Mountain and the rolling hills of Oaxaca and Veracruz.
Our hiking tour will take us about 4 hours. This program is suitable for people of all ages, even for children. You will be amazed by the beautiful colors of the Sun and Moon Lagoons, with greenish crystal blue waters.
Please note due to high altitude, temperatures are usally low around the mountain, so it’s strongly recommended to wear warm clothes for this hike. And don’t forget to bring your camera: the lagoon landscapes are truly amazing!

Daniel and his partner Alex did a great job guiding us, and helping with all the logistics, especially transportation to and from the climb. Alex was a real pleasure to talk with, learn from, and show us the mountain. Thank you, for a great experience!
Daniel was kind enough to pick me up promptly at the airport when I arrived. we drove straight to amecameca and bought a few supplies, we then drove to Popo park and set up camp. Daniel gave a class on crampons, walking sticks and the ice pick and then it was time to sleep and prepare for the early morning hike start. we set off around 0330 and reached the recluso at about 15,500 feet. it was an amazing experience with wonderful views. Thank you Daniel, Alejandro and Yasmin!
