Highlights

  • Take in astonishing panoramas of Volcan de Fuego and the countryside.

  • Learn about the flora and fauna of this vast region of Mexico.

  • Spend a full day summitting a mountain over 4,000 meters tall.

Discover the rugged beauty of Mexico’s western volcanoes on this amazing day hike to the summit of the seventh tallest mountain in the country! The guided program offers an in-depth look at the volcanoes in Jalisco and Colima while reaching the peak of Nevado de Colima and looking out across the landscape towards Volcan de Fuego and Ciudad Guzman!

Nevado de Colima, also known as Zapotepetl, is the seventh highest mountain in Mexico, reaching 4,340 meters above sea level. It belongs to the Colima Volcanic Complex that includes the Volcan de Fuego, an extremely active volcano with many recent eruptions. Located in a national park of the same name, this intriguing volcano is southwest of Ciudad Guzman, just over 150 kilometers south of Guadalajara.

Your compelling hiking program is designed to give you a fulfilling trek through the unique flora and fauna of a rare side of Mexico, putting you front and center to the daunting Volcan de Fuego. We will hike through pine forests and rugged terrain to the summit of Nevado de Colima, learning valuable information about the volcano itself and the history of its activity.

You can watch the environment change with the altitude, viewing ash deposits from previous eruptions while passing through the various ecosystems. Amazingly enough, one of the striking features you will notice is the abundance of bird and flower species while trekking towards the top. Once you have made it to the summit, you can look out at the Volcan de Fuego just five kilometers away.

This is a perfect blend of activity and instruction, allowing you a sustained path to the top with plenty of instruction along the way. This is a full immersion into a part of Mexico not often seen, giving you a unique perspective on some of the most exciting volcanoes in North America.

Our goal is to spend a majority of the day on the mountain, though less time actually trekking, so the program is open to anyone with a general fitness level. You just need to bring your passion for hiking and the outdoors to enjoy this trip. I will ensure we have a safe, fulfilling, and all-around fun time exploring the many alluring features of Nevado de Colima.

Book this incredible day hike to Nevado de Colima NOW and reach the summit of the seventh tallest mountain in Mexico and one of the most extraordinary in all of North America!

If you want a change of pace, we can also try a day hike in the Bosque de la Canada de Contreras near Mexico City!

What People are Saying about Mexico Adventure Guides-

Daniel and his partner Alex did a great job guiding us, and helping with all the logistics, especially transportation to and from the climb. Alex was a real pleasure to talk with, learn from, and show us the mountain. Thank you, for a great experience!

Daniel was kind enough to pick me up promptly at the airport when I arrived. we drove straight to amecameca and bought a few supplies, we then drove to Popo park and set up camp. Daniel gave a class on crampons, walking sticks and the ice pick and then it was time to sleep and prepare for the early morning hike start. we set off around 0330 and reached the recluso at about 15,500 feet. it was an amazing experience with wonderful views. Thank you Daniel, Alejandro and Yasmin!
