Join me on an exciting day hike to the highest peak of Čabulja Mountain, just 2o km from Mostar in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At 1,786 meters, the Velika Vlajina peak isn't as high as many in this region. However, the view it offers of canyons and distant green valleys is just as spectacular.

We'll ascend on a hiking route that features the rocky scenery typical of Herzegovina. Upon reaching the peak we'll soak in the beauty for a bit, resting and eating there.

Then, on the descent, you're in for a special treat as we cross territory that is the home of wild horses. Once abandoned by peasants, they now live freely in this area. They aren't scared of people, so it's even possible to admire them close-up.

Hiking Guide

Welcome to your Herzegovina Hiking Adventure. My name is Miroslav Mihalj, born in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am the current president of the Croatian Mountaineering Association “Prenj 1933 Mostar”, certified Mountain Guide and Rescuer and I offer hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring tours around this beautiful region.

As mountain hiker I am proud to have climbed some of the highest peaks in Europe and Balkans as well as local peaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which I have climbed numerous times both in winter and summer.

I enjoy nature, that feeling of freedom and serenity the mountains offer. They are a place to find yourself and push your boundaries. I’m lucky to have been born in a place surrounded by beautiful and intact mountain ranges hiding the most exciting nature my country has to offer.

I cannot recommend Miroslav more highly. We had the best day hiking with him! He set a really nice pace, well suited to our level, was very thoughtful and attentive and showed us some amazing lookouts. He was extremely professional, helpful, kind and knowledgeable, not just about hiking but the area and Bosnian history. He went above and beyond to make the most of our day and took us to a beautiful river to go swimming with the locals after a hot day walking and then showed us a great local place for dinner. Having done a lot of hiking and climbing with lots of different guides, Miroslav is one of the best. He’s extremely experienced and a great person and guide. Was a great day walking and hanging out. Would have loved to stay and do more trips with him!
