Description

I will lead you on this extremely fun and unforgettable trip high up above the Hochjoch mountain pass in Silvretta-Montafon, Austria, as we traipse and travail along an absolutely spectacular via ferrata (the longest in the state) containing views over the lush green valleys, stunning mountain sides and peaceful lakes below.

The Montafon valley is located in the state of Vorarlberg in Austria, and is a very popular destination for those seeking to indulge in outdoor activities, both in Summer and Winter. It is home to a very strong alpine culture, and agriculture and farming still holds a firm grip on life in the region.

There are two options for the via ferrata route, both of different levels of difficulty. Both begin by riding the Hochjoch cable car and Sennigrat chairlift up the mountain, and from there is where there is a divergence.

The first and slightly more challenging route entails following a steel cable to the summit of Hochjoch, with the pay-off being a magnificent 60-metre long cable suspension bridge to cross, followed by the beguiling descent featuring sweeping panoramic views over the Ratikon, Verwall and Silvretta mountain ranges, each containing mesmerizing and tranquil mountain lakes. The route finishes with a lovely walk down to the pretty Kalbersee Lake.

The second, and gentler route, enables you to reach the summit and return via the exact same trail, or to also cross the suspension bridge much like the first route. The terrain and path is less physically taxing, and the finishing point is also at the Kalbersee Lake.

The views are something truly to behold, with the Austrian countryside laid out beneath you like a scene from a postcard, meaning you will be eager to take plenty of photos.

We finish hopefully having provided you with memories to last a lifetime, and a desire to come back and explore more of this astonishing region of Montafon.

Have a go at this epic and awesome Via ferrata in Montafon and you won’t regret it – book now to experience.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
