Via ferratas in Salzkammergut, Austria: Mahdlgupf, Drachenwand, Katrin, Johann

Situated less than an hour away from Salzburg, the Salzkammergut Alps boast plentiful and incredible via ferrata opportunities.

Over the course of our 1+ days together, we can head up various vertical rock faces, all of which offer incredible views out over the surrounding landscape.

There is nothing quite like hanging on to the iron path and gazing out over the various mountains, forests and lakes that compose this beautiful part of the Alps.

Among the various options we may choose to tackle are the Mahdlgupf via ferrata, Drachenwand via ferrata, Katrin via ferrata or Johann-Klettersteig. Each of these offers incredible views along with a slightly different kind of challenge.

For example, the Drachenwand via ferrata takes the climber along a suspension bridge over a deep gorge, the perfect spot for selfies and a bit of an adrenaline rush.

While you do not need to be a climbing expert to enjoy this trip, it does help to have some previous via ferrata experience.
