Description

Come to the Limestone Alps in north-central Austria to take on the country’s longest and most challenging via ferrata!

Situated just an hour south of Salzburg,  the via ferrata in Hochkönig is a must-do for any enthusiast of the sport. Rewarding those who make it up with incredible views of this beautiful country,  the 10 to 12 hour ascent is well worth the effort.

After meeting up first thing in the morning at Dientner Sattel, we will make the 2.5 hour hike over pretty easy terrain to the start of the ‘iron path’. Once we have arrived at the base of this limestone massif, we will check our gear, clip in and begin the climb.

Beginning at Taghaubenscharte, we will climb over an, at times, exposed ridge line before reaching the summit of the Hochkönig. Expect to spend about five hours making the ascent.

If you want to spend more time exploring the massif, we also have the option to spend the night at the Matrashaus, on the massif.

So what are you waiting for? Book now for this incredible via ferrata experience heading up Austria’s longest and most challenging ‘iron path’ up to the summit of the Hochkönig.

If you like the look of this, but are in the mood for something a bit more challenging, then I think you will enjoy my 1-day rock climbing trip to the summit of the Duentnerweg via the Hochkönig south face!

Mountain Guide

Growing up in Salzburg's Lungau, Austria, my enthusiasm for the mountains has been rooted in me since childhood.

In winter, I passionately lead my guests on ski tours or show them the best runs while skiing off-piste. In later season I’m guiding in Norway (Lyngen/Senja). And another great passion is ice climbing on frozen waterfalls.

In summer I like to be out and about on rocks and ice in my local mountains but also abroad.

I look forward to go on tour together with you!

What people are saying about Klaus

Francois

We initialy planned to climb the grossvenediger but the weather conditions were not great. Klaus was very kean to find a good alternative for the group considering our technical level. We climbed the mosermandl and it was beautiful, the whole group loved it, view was amazing and challenge was also there. Klaus was very fun and engaging we definetly would recommend him to any group or friends !

Rick

Klaus was epic and challenged us to get out of our comfort zone. Due to really unfortunate circumstances we had to change guide last minute, which left us in the dark as to whether the trip would go ahead. Explore share did sort the issue but it felt like it took a lot of pestering and communication could have been better.

Klaus was an incredible guide. He knew exactly what he was doing. And he was great fun to talk to. I can only but recommend him! 5/5. Thanks for the great adventure Klaus!
