Description

Pico Peñalara is the highest peak in Sierra de Guadarrama, a subrange of the Central System mountains. This trip is your chance to reach its summit and learn the basic skills of winter mountaineering. Join me!

Surrounded by the Lozoya Valley (Madrid) and the Valsaín Valley, Peñalara (2,428m) is part of a beautiful National Park in Segovia. The area features several small lakes, lush pine forests and impressive mountains. During the winter, it turns into a perfect destination for winter ascents.

For this introductory trip we will meet in Puerto de Cotos, Madrid. After a short security briefing, we will be ready for the adventure! We will explore amazing natural spots such as the Peñalara Lagoon, and learn how to use crampons and ice axes.

This easy mountaineering route is 12km long. On our traverse we will discover a rich flora, and if we are lucky, also a varied fauna!

So, if you are up for an intro to Winter Mountaineering on Pico Pelañara, please get in touch with me. Lets reach the top of one of the most emblematic peaks of the Guadarramas!

We can also practice snowshoeing in this same area: check it out!

What people are saying about Pedro

Raquel

Pedro was so knowledgeable about the area, and graciously answered all our questions, even those unrelated to the hike. He was very kind in picking us up from Madrid for a small fee. He also took a bunch of photos of my husband and I during the trek, which I really appreciated since those are our only pictures together from our trip to Spain. I'd definitely recommend Pedro to anyone traveling to Madrid and interested in experiencing nature outside the city.
