If you’ve ever wanted to feel like you’re in the middle of the Australian countryside just a short drive from the big city, then join me on this day hike on the Karloo Walking Track in the Royal National Park, near Sydney, a truly magnificent slice of raw natural Australian bush scenery featuring thick native vegetation, waterfalls, swimming spots and glorious coastline.

Royal National Park is located 29km South of the centre of the New South Wales state capital city of Sydney, and is the second oldest national park in the world, and oldest in Australia. The park is home to a wide array of native Australian flora and fauna, and is a popular hiking and walking spot.

Our trip begins when we assemble at the nearby Heathcote train station, from which we then being the hike in earnest.

The track is 5km long, and during the hike we will be exposed to some of the most gorgeous landscape, scenery and terrain in the state, with the hectares of trees and vegetation covering and leading to some absolutely delightful beaches and lookout points along the coast.

We stop at Karloo Pool along the way, an immensely popular swimming spot, before reaching the end of the trail, Uloola Falls, a mesmerizing and alluring waterfall that is the perfect picnic spot.

On the way back there will be time to explore and discover the numerous rock outcrops on the path, with the ‘whaleback’ outcrops being a particular highlight.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
