Situated in northeastern Puerto Rico, Yunque Peak is one of the tallest mountains on the island.
Rising to 1.080 meters above sea level, the peak towers above the surrounding tropical rainforest, which is the only one in the Untied States.
While climbing to the top of the mountain is always a popular option, one lesser known, but equally beautiful route is to climb down from one of its slopes along La Coca trail.
Starting at 435 meters in elevation, the trail starts with a steep descent down slipper rocks. This means, we’ll finish the half-day hike with a steep ascent over the same slippery rocks.
As we go along the trail, we will pass through some rivers, past several different waterfalls and along more rocky trails. While this may sound like a hassle to some, the scenery is simply amazing.
The trail takes you through the heart of this jungle and gives you the opportunity to see all the native plant and some of the wild animals that call this place home.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for this incredible half-day hike through the thick jungles on the slopes of El Yunque Peak along La Coca trail!
If you like the look of this trip then we think you might also like our half-day hike up El Yunque Trail to the top of the mountain!
