Description

Jura, in Eastern France, is a renown destination for canyoning. And it makes sense, since there are many fantastic routes! For example, one of my favourites is Le Gros Dard. I propose here a half-day adventure in this wonderful natural place.

The Gros Dard is in Saint-Claude. This canyon has many jumps, but they are all within a reasonable altitude. Therefore, it is a perfect option if you are looking for an initiation into canyoning. Besides, there is an option to avoid any jump or waterfall that you might not feel comfortable with. And families are of course welcome!

It is a beautiful canyoning descent, immersed in a dense forest, giving it a very special ambiance. You will immediately see what I mean when you get there.

And if you already have canyoning experience you will also greatly enjoy this half day. Or, if you prefer to try a more demanding option in the same place, have a look at this full canyoning day: Gros Dard integral.

Thinking of trying canyoning in the Jura? Then don't hesitate to send me a request! It will be my pleasure to guide you here. Besides, I also offer other half day canyoning options: La Langouette and Les Gorges de Malvaux.

Mountain Guide

The Jura massif is an ideal place to learn and grow your experience in alpine techniques. I practice mountaineering, ski touring and ice climbing in the winter. I am also located very close to the Swiss and French alpine massifs.

First, I started as a ski rescuer. My passion for skiing and climbing helped me discover the classic routes in the mythical summits of the Alps. The first mountain courses I went on with friends as a guide - which I did with a lot of effort, doubts and perseverance - were much needed to build my experience. Still, they also gave me a lot of joy, and I was able to pursue them while laughing and creating beautiful moments shared.

My experience and terrain knowledge will allow you to move safely and enjoy your time, without a promise of the summit but of sharing a privileged and unique moment in the mountains.

Finally, I'm a fully certified IFMGA mountain guide.

Thanks to the site, we had a rapid proposal for a guide, who quickly tool contact with us. He chose a trip adapted to the competences of the family and remained very diligent during the full trip. Great experience !

An excellent guide, who planned an amazing route and combined technical instruction with local knowledge to provide a very enjoyable day of skiing that improved my off-piste skills and gave me confidence to try lines that I would never consider alone.

I am really, really happy with both Explore-share.com’s service and their recommendation of guide Benjamin Souflot. Benjamin was extremely personable, and more importantly knowledgeable. Benjamin recommended where to rent ski gear and the proper gear for the day. He had crampons for my boots, ropes and other safety gear needed. I showed up at the meeting spot early, and Benjamin was already there waiting. On the gondola ride up to Aiguille du Midi, he talked safety and what to expect. When we got up to the top, it was very windy and intimidating. As Benjamin prepared the gear for our descent, he talked safety, strategy and was reassuring that it would be a fun, safe adventure. As I look down the face of the Ridgeline, I became nervous and anxious. Benjamin was very reassuring that it was going to be OK, that I was safe with him and we would make it down. Sure enough, Benjamin literally “talked me off the ledge” and we proceeded down. Benjamin was focused & guided me the entire time. Once we started skiing, Benjamin gave great instructions as to where to ski, what to expect ahead, etc. He was very knowledgeable about the mountain. When we took breaks, Benjamin shared with me interesting facts about where we were, in the mountains France, Italy, Mount Blanc, the crevasses, various peaks, history of the glacier, etc. I had a great experience! I would definitely do this trip again with Benjamin. I would also recommend this trip to anyone else with Benjamin and your company, Explore-share.com. Thank you again! -John
