Moncayo summit 2314m ascent in Sierra del Moncayo

With its 2314 meters, it is the highest mountain of the Iberian System.

It may look as a wonderful innocent prairie. On the contrary, the Moncayo Mountain is hard and severe, especially during the winter months.

The highest part of the mount is frequently covered in ice and snow. Also, the strong winds from Cierzo usually invade the area.

And, if there happens to be fog in the peaks, it is normal to get lost and end up in extremely dangerous and precipitous slopes.

In spite of this, Sierra del Moncayo is a great climbing destination, particularly in winter.

The guiding team has chosen an interesting circular route. Although it is longer, it will take through alternative paths, more deserted and wild.

Once we get to the mountain’s top, we will see Ordesa and Monte Perdido in the Pyrenees.

And to the southeast Ocejón and Somosierra. Let’s say, half Spain will be within visual reach.

Most probably, we will use crampons and piolet to descend. However, this does not mean that the activity is extremely challenging. In fact, it is the most adequate ascent for winter climbing beginners.
