Whether you snowboard, telemark or ski, Chamonix is one of the key spots for people who wish to do freeride skiing. Instead of the tamed conditions found on piste, off piste skiing opens you the door to the wilderness…and whenever possible, to awesome powder snow descents.
To master off piste skiing, you need to adapt your riding to the snow and terrains, and develop a specific feeling for the snow and the mountain. Rapid progression can be achieved with small tips that I can give you.
Together we can discover the glaciers of La Vallée Blanche, Les Grands Montets and many others, in the stunning Mont Blanc Massif, surrounded by some of the legendary peaks of the Alps: Mont Blanc, Les Grandes Jorasses, Les Drus…
My main goal will be to give your the necessary tips to improve your freeride skiing technics and bring you where the snow conditions are the best !
Join me for this 5-day program where you’ll learn different interesting and important technics:
– How to ski in deep powder snow;
– how to evaluate and deal with risks linked to off-piste skiing;
– How to use transceiver, shovel and probe when caught in an avalanche.
The program will be defined based on the weather conditions and you ski level. Here is an example:
Day 1 – LE TOUR
We start at Le Tour which offers some ideal off-piste routes to reacquaint yourself with the mountain such as “La combe des Jeurs”.
DAY 2 – BREVENT
We follow this 5-day course with the Brevent ski area, where the slopes face Mont-Blanc. The link with Flégère gives us a huge range of off-piste skiing possibilities.
DAY 3 – GRANDS MONTETS
We are based at the famous Grands Montets ski resort. This vast area of off-piste skiing is situated in the shadow of L’Aiguille Verte, keeping the snow fresh long after other areas. There are numerous glacier descent which allow us to develop our awareness and techniques in crevasse terrains.
DAY 4 – TOULA GLACIER
We go through the Mont Blanc tunnel to access the 3462 Toula glacier, the Italian side of Mont Blanc. During the day we can ski several 1000 m descents.
DAY 5 – VALLEE BLANCHE
To finish this off piste skiing course in Chamonix , the 24 km descent of La Vallée Blanche takes us through the heart of the biggest glacier area in the French Alps. The adventure starts at 3842 m on the Aiguille du Midi to finish some 2800 m lower in Chamonix.
