Description

Let’s paddle through the pristine wilderness of one of the most extreme latitudes on the planet! During this 3-day kayaking adventure, we will explore the remote Beagle Channel in Southern Argentina, situated at the far reaches of the Southern Hemisphere!

The Beagle Channel is a strait that cuts through Chilean and Argentinean territory in Tierra del Fuego, located at the Southern tip of South America.  While Europeans did not explore the territory until Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the 16th century, the area has been inhabited by humans for more than 7,000 years.  These early inhabitants adapted to the harsh climate by learning to navigate coastal waters in order to hunt and fish.

During this 3-day adventure, we will have the opportunity to learn about and develop an appreciation for both the natural and cultural aspects of Tierra del Fuego. As we paddle in solitude along the Beagle Channel, we will have ample opportunities to spot the abundant wildlife of the area, including sea lions and a variety of bird species.  At the same time, we will learn about the traditions and mythology of the native Yamana and Alakaluf who thrived in the area for millennia.  We will discover the technologies they developed in order thrive in one of the most remote regions on the planet.

We will paddle through the Beagle Channel from Ushuaia to Estancia Harberton, a total distance of 80 km.  As a fully autonomous trip, we will carry our supplies in our kayaks, allowing us to fully enjoy the wilderness experience.  At the end of each day, we will pitch our tents in the beautiful forest that lines the shore.  Once we arrive in Estancia Harberton, we will visit the ranch and the Sea Mammals Museum before our transfer back to Ushuaia.

While this is a somewhat demanding trip and previous kayaking experience is recommended, our local guides are familiar with the terrain and are expert kayakers, ensuring that you will have a fun and safe trip.  In addition to the guiding fee, the price includes equipment rental (including kayak, life jacket, paddles, etc.), camping equipment (excluding sleeping bag), food, and all transfers during the trip.

Book now – it will be an unforgettable experience exploring the remote Southern latitudes as you kayak through one of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet!
