Why don't you join Rafael, an expert in rappelling and climbing itineraries, in this underground adventure in the caves of Nivar? A unique trip suitable for all the family near Granada and Sierra Nevada.

Sierra Nevada

1 Day

May - Aug

Description

Sima de Nivar offers an absolutely unique caving and rappelling experience and that’s why I’d like to share it with you.

Just outside Granada there is a magic place for the enjoyment of this great outdoor trip. My invitation consists in a guided caving day in which you’ll rappel about 20 meters to enter to the caves.

The caves of Sima de Nivar are located in the Nivar municipality, overlooking the Sierras of Parapanda and the famous Sierra Nevada. My top reasons why I think it is a unique trip are:

  • You’ll have the chance to explore the amazing Spanish underworld;

  • I will give you all the instructions about how to progress and abseil in a cave;

  • The natural dark landscape given by the caves will surprise you;

  • You’ll take a digital album with the main shots of you in action.

Please find here below a sample itinerary or this caving and rappelling day in Sima de Nivar. Remember that I can adjust any item according to your wishes and technical level.

ITINERARY

I will pick you up from central Granada, driving to the locality of Nivar. Once in there, we’ll have a short introductory talk. I will teach you some basis of the use of the equipment.

After that, we start the walk over rocky terrain until we reach the entrance of the Nivar Cave. Here the best part comes! Itineraries of sliding, navigation and rappelling are waiting for you. You will count on my help and guidance in order to enjoy this experience to the fullest and in a safe way.

In addition, you’ll see many rock formations along the way, such as stalagmites and stalactites. The underground world will never stop to amaze you! When we get to the end of the cave, we’ll have a deserved rest and drink a cup of tea or coffee with some snacks. Finally, a transfer will take you back to the city center of Granada.

Regarding the physical condition, keep in mind that you must be able to walk on unpaved or uneven terrain. If you and your group are in a good physical shape, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s a trip suitable for families with children from 12 years old and up.

Finally, don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes and hiking boots. I always recommend to bring a change of clothes, just in case they get wet.

For any other doubt or if you want to book your place, please contact me. I will be happy to guide through this unique experience in the caves of Sima de Nivar!

Mountain Guide

I'm a lover of adventure sports, with 23 years of experience in almost all its modalities. My passion is climbing, although my profession is more focused on another of my passions: the canyoning. I'm ICOpro Instructor (the only one in Spain), which allows me to join my two passions, sport and teaching.
I have climbed and done canyoning in many countries of the world like Indonesia, Morocco, Argentina, France, Switzerland and India. And what my travels have truly taught me is that what really matters is the people and what they can teach me. I learn from each of the people I lead and I love that.

Booked half day Via Ferrata - it turned out to be 1.5 hours via Ferrata and 1.5 hours travelling. Was disappointed with the amount of time actually doing the activity

More information required from Rafa before the trip - we did not know that we would have to drive for 30 mins off-road to get to the start point. We were in a hire car and I was very concerned about damaging the car. We also had 21 people in our group - this is far too many. The trip took about 7 hours because we moved so slowly with so many people.

Rafa, is a terrific guide. My family had a fantastic time on the via feratta route he took us on in Archidona. I found Rafa to be professional, friendly, client-centered and safe. You will have to initiate the majority of the contact, but the experience is likely to be the highlight of your trip to southern Spain. I plan on recontacting Rafa when we are next in the area. He provides all the needed equipment.
