Chile‘s renowned “Ring of Fire” consists of the active volcanoes in the south of the country. They are located between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean. In fact, 10 of them are great volcanoes for skiing. The area covers 500km of the Patagonian regions Great Lakes and Araucania.

There are many small ski resorts at the foot of the volcanoes. Therefore access to the slopes is fast and easy. In addition, we enjoy staying in the heart of the forests. From here, we have to climb around 1300 m each day to reach the summit of the volcanoes. We can go to 5 or 6 of them. Of course this will depend on the weather conditions and the level of the participants.

We may find some powder if the conditions allow, but in spring snow of great quality covers the area. When skiing on volcano slopes, there are first steep sections, that flatten gradually as we go down to the base.

Here is the program and the itinerary of this unique ski touring trip. It may be subject to change, in order to make the best of prevailing weather and snow conditions.

Does this unique ski touring plan in Araucania sound interesting? Then please contact me! I know the area very well and I can guarantee it’s a fantastic place for skiing while enjoying the sceneries.

And if you want to cross the border, we can also go to Argentina for some ski touring in Bariloche and El Chaltén!
