Description

Sail into the island life on an exciting six-day journey that will take your breath away by land AND sea! Ski tour through the vast immaculate terrain of Iceland and its fjords while sailing along its compelling coastline for an unforgettable and immersive adventure!

Iceland is an amazing country with a compelling landscape. Historic and isolated, just venturing to its geological treasures is a treat. Getting to explore these natural jewels is a dream come true, and your program is the best possible way to get the most from your experience.

The isolated Westfjords Region is the perfect place to delve into the backcountry culture of this beautiful country. Its sparse population and stunning terrain make it the epitome of a wilderness adventure. It covers roughly 40 percent of the country’s entire coastline, cutting in and out along the ocean to create an extraordinary environment.

We will travel by sailboat around the glacial valleys of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve and select only the best routes and runs for incomparable backcountry skiing. The reserve is accessible exclusively by foot and boat, so the experience will be personal. The virgin runs of untouched snow mean you can be the first person to ever ski across the powder!

Jokulfirdir – glacial fjords created by the Drangajokull Glacier – are a life-changing sight, and the evocative ups and downs of the accompanying terrain are sure to impress. All your days will begin and end in the “Donna Wood” – an accommodating wooden sailboat that includes a deck saloon, roomy cabins with closets and wash basins, and functioning showers and toilets. It is the only way to travel in this pristine environment and defines the Icelandic experience.

Basing our trip out of an agile sailing vessel allows us uncompromised access to an unusually beautiful and remote masterpiece of nature. I am excited to share this rare opportunity with you and to give you the safe, enjoyable, and fulfilling program you have always wanted.

Because of its isolated location, you should have a high level of proficiency in backcountry skiing and be in good physical condition. This sustained journey affords comfortable evenings on a boat, but still requires previous backcountry experience and the mental fortitude to complement it.

Book this unforgettable six-day program NOW and discover the beauty of Iceland and its terrain from every angle – ship to shore!

We also have an incredible Haute Route program over eight days in the Alps! Or we can ski tour for five days in the daunting Alaskan wilderness at Thompson Pass!

Accommodation

We will be staying on the sailboat during the evenings (five (5) nights).

I am the owner of Lotus Alpine Adventures and have a long career in the guiding industry. I started out working in Outdoor Education in Colorado, where I also received a degree in Outdoor Education from Ithaca College.

From 2007 to 2014, I owned and operated Crested Butte Mountain Guides. Throughout those years, I also worked through the AMGA training curriculum and eventually became the 95th American to obtain IFMGA certification, the most rigorous international certification available in the industry.

Throughout my career, I have worked for and built partnerships with many of the main mountain guiding agencies in the US and it is thanks to these partnerships that Lotus Alpine Adventures can now offer programs in very varied spots across the US, including: Crested Butte, Boulder and Eldorado Canyon in Colorado; Moab and Castle Valley in Utah; Red Rocks in Nevada; Valdez in Alaska; Jackson Hole in Wyoming; and the Cascades of Washington.

All of my experience and expertise ultimately results in a truly professional guiding service and a great trip experience for you and your group, regardless of your level or activity.

The world´s mountain ranges are not only our playground but also our office and our classroom. Let us guide you and share with you some truly unforgettable moments!
