Please arrive at Honister Slate Mine 30 minutes before your scheduled session. Your instructor will meet you directly in the car park—there’s no need to check in at the main reception.

From Keswick: About 9 miles and a 25-minute drive via the B5289.

From Penrith (M6): Roughly 26 miles, taking around 50 minutes via the A66 and B5289.

From Windermere: Around 29 miles, approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

From Ambleside: About 25 miles, roughly a 1-hour drive.

From Keswick: Bus 77 (The Honister Rambler) runs directly to Honister Slate Mine, offering a scenic route through Keswick, Seatoller, and Buttermere. Alternatively, bus 78 goes to Seatoller (National Trust car park), followed by a 35-minute walk up to Honister.

From elsewhere: Use an online journey planner to find routes to Keswick, where you can connect to bus 77 or 78.

Take a train to Penrith (accessible directly from Carlisle, Lancaster, Manchester, London, and more) or Oxenholme (with direct trains from London and Lancaster). From either station, take a bus to Keswick, then transfer to bus 77 or 78 to reach Honister.
