Matterhorn 2 Day Guided Climb From Switzerland

My summit attempt with Peakshunter was splendid. Jacopo was a fantastic guide and made me feel safe during the entire attempt. He also shared some great knowledge about climbing and mountains in general. Unfortunately we had to turn back before the summit due to the weather conditions, which was the right decision considering the circumstances. Peakshunter provided all relevant information and were always willing to answer questions if I had any. The first contact with the guide was also seamless and smooth. I will most definitely pick Peakshunter if I go for another attempt next year and highly recommend their services!

2-day Matterhorn summit via the Hörnli Ridge, from Zermatt

If you're climbing the Matterhorn you need to go with a local guide who has climbed it many times and therefore knows the correct route. On our climb we encountered a lot of people off of the main route, which takes longer, is more dangerous, results in rocks being knocked down, and even getting stuck on the mountain without shelter for the night (as four climbers had the previous night). Daniel has climbed the Matterhorn over a hundred times and did nine days in a row in 2022. He was able to tell me to go straight, right or left and where footholds were. He is a very strong climber and I felt that he would probably catch me on the short rope if I slipped. It turned out that I was not in as good shape as I needed to be, so I climbed more slowly than ideal, for which I got a verbal flogging (hence minus one star). I made it to the Solvay hut in about 2:30 before we turned around. Notes: (1) You need to book two days with Daniel earlier in the week for a test climb to see how you do rock climbing and with crampons. All of the larger guide services do this. (2) You pay for your ticket and his for the tram, as well as for the rooms in the Hornli hut. (3) You might be able to borrow an ice ax and other gear. Check when you book, then confirm a few days before. You can rent gear at Yosemite and other shops in Zermatt.

Elis was very concerned about our safety and he did it very good. He explained how crevasses are formed and how to discover them. He had a really strong pace going up but we keep up with him the whole time. His English was good and we had a lot of fun! With him you feel confident to climb any mountain.

We did our first 4000m peak with Gigio from Peak Hunters and it was a (literally) breathtaking experience! To everyone who wants to start their adventure with high altitude- this is a great place to start. Keep in mind that is still challenging to your body due to the altitude. I wish we did more acclimatisation. Overall it was perfectly organised and adjusted to us. They kept us safe, informed and well prepared. Thank you so much and look forward to more adventures! ps. Matterhorn guided climb via Hornli ridge

This trip was absolutely fantastic! Guy was a very knowledgeable guide, with extensive experience and know-how to get up the mountain. Guy worked with me to understand the conditions, reschedule a summit bid for later in the week, and then successfully summit the Matterhorn. I would easily consider him a short-roping jedi - which was essential for a safe trip up the Matterhorn. Speed is everything in the alpine, and Guy understands that and moves quickly, perhaps too quickly in some instances (not much time desired at summit or for pictures, etc. even though we were the third group to summit and where hours ahead of other parties). That being said, it did not detract from the overall summit and I was grateful to be off the summit before the fixed ropes were full of other parties. A more relaxed tone at times would have been appreciated but I understood the underlying desire to move quickly. The only thing lacking was a more formal expectation procedure but perhaps this is only my expectations. A formalized gear list, an understanding of the hut prices, and gondola rides, etc. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and I will definitely be using Guy again for other alpine adventures that require guiding.

Matterhorn 2-day ascent

Tobias was an absolutely fantastic guide for our adventure on the Matterhorn (his 85th ascent!), and could not recommend him more highly as a guide and person. We required a second guide for the actual matterhorn climb as there was two of us - instead of Tobias telling us to find someone, he fully arranged another guide that he knew and trusted for the trip up, which allowed us to focus solely on our climbing and training for the Matterhorn ascent. When a gear breakdown affected our training climb on the Breithorn half traverse, Tobias adapted the training and route to give us a bit more time and coaching with the skills needed to successfully summit the Horn. He kept expectations very realistic, and pushed us as positively and confidently as possible. As a result, we made great time to the Matterhorn summit and back. He was also in constant communication in the months leading up to the climb, and constantly provided helpful tips and advice. Even met us for a drink when we arrived in Zermatt to introduce ourselves and gain some familiarity before the climbing began! The climb was a trip of a lifetime, and would not have been possible without Tobias. I will be booking with him again for my next trip to climb in the alps.

Matterhorn guided climb via Hornli ridge

Guide Guy-Robert May was absolutely excellent in the strict sense of being a mountain guide. He demonstrated outstanding knowledge of the route, safety procedures and technical aspects of the climb. However, I noted that Guy-Robert and the other local guides working with clients during my ascent seemed singularly interested in getting their work-day done quickly. I came to understand a few aspects behind their motivation. Firstly, I noted the guides don't want un-guided climbing groups to follow their route. Secondly, I learned that many of the guides have back to back bookings and need to return to the Hörnli Hut or Zermatt to meet their next clients at a certain time. Given that this is their profession, I understand the guides' desire to move things along quickly. Unfortunately rather than being forthcoming, the guides attempted to justify their reasons for such speed solely under the pretense of safety. After 30 years of mountaineering throughout the world, I am keenly aware that speed equals safety in the mountains. However for many including myself, the joy of climbing includes more than just the physical challenge. Taking moments to enjoy being in the mountains can be just as important as reaching the summit. Simply pushing a client to move as fast as possible leaves little room for that enjoyment. On the Matterhorn like any climb there are positions of relative safety. The summit and Solvay Refuge specifically come to mind. I would have liked to see my guide provide for a more leisurely stop in these areas to afford me time to enjoy my surroundings. I would highly recommend Guide Guy-Robert May to anyone solely intent on conquering their intended Swiss summit. However, for those looking to enjoy their climbs, immerse themselves in their surroundings and indulge in the technical skills being used this type of booking may not be for you. I regret not having a critical conversation with my guide about his climbing strategy prior to finalizing my booking. I am very happy to have made the summit and give all of the credit to my guide. Be that as it may, I would not book another climb with him or Explore-Share without specific assurances regarding the intended climbing philosophy.

Matterhorn North Face 3-day guided climb

Here is the summary of my experience with Explore-share and Enrico: Explore-share was one of several companies I considered before my trip to the Alps. I was very happy with my choice from the moment I sent my first email. The staff members responded promptly and answered all of my questions very clearly and kindly. I was blown away with the professionalism they have demonstrated. Two days after sending my first email I was in contact with my guide, Enrico. With Enrico we climbed different routes in the area of Mt. Blanc and practiced different techniques for about ten days. Enrico was an excellent guide. He was patient, thoughtful, and improved my skills tremendously. He was very thorough and safety conscious. After ten days of climbing I felt a lot of trust between the two of us, which I believe makes us a good team for future climbing adventures. I would highly recommend Explore-share and Enrico to anyone who is planning to explore the beauty of the Alps and take the challenge of climbing these magnificent mountains. During my trip I met Italian, French, Swiss and German guides. All of them were extremely enthusiastic and nice. Going to Europe for climbing? Choose European professionals. You will not be disappointed.

Daniel guided us safely to Matterhorn summit via Hörnli Ridge. We visited Swiss and Italian summits and then headed back to Hörnli Hut. In very good conditions this whole trip took us just approx. 8 hours. Daniel is a very strong and skilled climber – he knows the route, gives good insight on how to climb each section and is continuously aware during short roping to prevent a possible slip. Just understand that Matterhorn climb is a very intense effort - there's not awfully lot of time for taking photos, admiring the views or relaxing during the climb.

Matterhorn 7-day guided climbing tour

The trip didn't go as planned as per the initial '7 day trip with Elis'. In reality I actually ended up doing a 3 day trip with Claudio Rosset, (3 days due to the weather) which was absolutely perfect and if there is a way I can rate that then I would rate it 5/5 as an incredible climb and guide! Had a 3 day trip up The Matterhorn with Claudio Rosset, we got interrupted with the weather but Claudio made a great effort to still make a climb work out by rearranging the schedule. We made the summit safe and sound and had an incredible trip overall. With consideration to communications, logistics planning, price and overall experience, I would rate the trip, Claudio and Explore-Share all as 100% perfect and I will recommend them to anyone! Matterhorn Preparation Climb on Breithorn

Breithorn half traverse is known as the training route for the Matterhorn ascent. Breithorn is also known to have one of the easiest route for 4000m summit. Then is Breithorn just a supporting role for Matterhorn? My answer is “NO”. Breithorn half traverse has many different aspects of mountaineering: hiking in the snow fields, ascent on the snow slope, rock climbing, snow ridge, and of course the exceptional view. Breithorn half traverse is definitely worth trying not only for training but also for your “main dish”.

Climbing Matterhorn via Lion’s ridge

Climbing Matterhorn has been an extraordinary mountaineering experience for me. I particularly enjoyed the spectacular views while going up and from the summit (discovering Dent d’Hérens, Monte Rosa Range, Dent Blanche…during the sun rise). I also liked the fact that it required different climbing technics to go up (ice, rock…). Thank you very much Elis for guiding me on Matterhorn. I felt secured and I enjoyed very much your company. Let’s do another peak together soon!

Guided climbing tours in the Alps

A great day traversing the Drus from the Charpoua hut. No one on the route that day except us. The weather proved excellent. Perfect guiding and very secure climbing with Pere !

Guided climbing tours in the Alps

Pere was just a fabulous guide. Technically, a very seasoned climber with wealth of knowledge and experience. His style is super friendly and soft, which makes the day absolutely enjoyable. He is super encouraging yet looks at you every second to make sure you're safe and to give you tips here and there. I'll certainly go for another outdoor activity with him again and I can only highly recommend him!
