Come along with me on an unforgettable 5-day hiking tour along the **Escapardenne-Eislek Trail** in the Ardennes. This trail has earned the **“Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe”** award – and for good reason. The beautiful scenery and the knowledge that centuries of history played out in this area make this a hike to remember.

**What to expect**

Over the 5 days, we’ll cover around **100 kilometers** of territory. We’ll average around **5-6 hours of walking** per day and cover between **16 to 25** kilometers daily. We’ll also cross the border from **Luxembourg to Belgium.** On the way, we’ll explore the Ardennes plateau, the Tailles plateau, and the Wiltz basin.

**The trip** 

Our trip begins in **Kautenbach, Luxembourg,** and ends in **La Roche-en-Ardenne, Belgium**. Along the trail, we will hike up high plateaus, enjoy spectacular views, then hike through the deep valleys. We’ll also pass through **historic world war sites.** There will be many points along the trail where we’ll hear very little noise from the outside. In these areas, we’ll be able to **walk peacefully** with just the sounds of nature.

We’ll begin hiking at 9 am from Klautenback on the crayfish path to  Schibberich before falling back into the valley. Then we will continues in the direction of Lellingen and head to a viewpoint where you can admire the Kischpelt.  
We can also stop at the village of Lellingen. Then, we will take the asphalt path on the left side of the railway line, pass through the “Geeslay” rock, and reach the villages of Wilwerwiltz and Enscherange.  
After an ascent on the plateau near Enscherange, magnificent views of the Kiischpelt arise. Passing through the copses near the “Walber” hill, you continue your way towards the Irbach valley. Finally, the hike goes over the “Nol” bridge, where it is possible to reach the village of Munshausen, to finally reach the Clervaux station.

Kautenbach - Clervaux: 22.5 km 

We’ll follow the creek from Clervaux, upstream, covering a vast ecological restoration area to the Beischend forest. We’ll pass war memorials and take in views around Troisvierges and Sassel. Finally, we’ll follow the valley of the brook Troine to it’s source-the mill of Asselborn. We’ll finish up the day there.

Clervaux - Asselborn: 19 km

First, we’ll cross valleys and natural and protected areas. One particular highlight includes Hoffelt, near the remains of the canal between Meuse and Moselle. We’ll then cross over into Belgium and we’ll explore picturesque villages and forests. After five hours of walking, our day will end in the city of Houffalize.

Asselborn - Houffalize: 21.5 km

On our penultimate day, we’ll leave Houffalize and quickly return to the forest before arriving at the valley of Nabiselle. We will then return to the plateau, grazing the village of Bonnerue, and reach the mill of Rensiwez. A small forest crossing will take us to the banks of the Ourthe. Later that day, we’ll reach the Nisramont Dam. We’ll end our day in Nadrin.

Houffalize - Nadrin: 21.5 km

On the last day, we’ll explore the Celtic site of Chesle as we make our way to our final destination La Roche-en-Ardenne. As we hike, we’ll pass through the village of Bérismenil, the small hamlet of Maboge and Borzée. Our trip will end in La Roche-en-Ardenne.

The Mullerthal region in Luxembourg is a wonderful destination with a diversity of landscapes and fantastic walking trails. This is a self-guided trip, so I’ll give you all the advice you need to explore the best parts of the region and then you’ll go off on your own to create exceptional memories.

##### **Little Switzerland** 

This region is often known as “Little Switzerland” for its hilly landscape. There is so much more to it than just that though. The Mullerthal has a rich geological history. This is evident in the impressive rock formations that you’ll come across on your hikes. You’ll also come across charming fields, forests, and beautiful panoramic views of picture-perfect valleys.

You’ll explore the Mëllerdall Nature Park which is also a geopark, created to protect and celebrate the geological history.

##### **What  to expect**

There are different hikes to choose from on this trip, some more difficult and some, easier. When you arrive at the hotel, I’ll be able to give you a better idea of what to expect, then you can decide which option you want to choose.

You’ll arrive in the evening and get settled in to your hotel before having dinner and going to sleep.

Day One

You’ll set off after breakfast today to explore the Mullerthal. Your hike will take you through breathtaking scenery like gorges and pilasters. You’ll be able to choose from both a level 2 and level 3 hike.

Day Two 

On day three, you’ll be taken by car to your next destination, Berdorf, a different part of the Mullerthal. Here your hike will take you around caves and marshes and up to high plateaus where you can enjoy stunning views. Just like the day before, you’ll be able to choose from both a level 2 and level 3 hike.

Day Three

Trekking through a countryside is a wonderful experience. And on this **6-day trip**, you will get to enjoy that experience in the beautiful **Oesling region of Luxembourg**.

This is a **self-guided trip**. As a result, you will get to enjoy the experience at your own pace, taking your time in whatever spots along the routes you see fit.

Full of gorgeous meadows, lakes, rivers, valleys, villages and even castles, the **Oesling region of Luxembourg** is a sight to behold. And, because this trip lasts 6 days, you will get to explore a great deal of it.

Every day of this trip will be different. And with the help of the **freedom folder**, you will have the information you need to get the most of this unbelievable opportunity.

Throughout the trip, you will get to visit a number of wonderful places. Some examples include the town of **Wiltz**, along with the villages of **Eschdorf, Esch Sur Sure, Nocher, Michelau** and more. You will also get to visit **Insenborn**, a place full of great water sports, as well as **Bourscheid**, home to a sensational castle. Furthermore, at the end of each day, you will get to relax and rest in a comfortable **3-star or 4-star hotel**.

During this **6-day trekking adventure**, you will be hiking from **four and a half to five and a half hours**, covering distances from **16 to 20 kilometers**. As a result, it is important that participants on this trip are in **good physical condition**.

After arriving at Wiltz, you will be picked up and brought to the hotel where you will spend the night.

Arrival and reception at Wiltz

From Wiltz, you will take a short train ride to Kautenbach.  From there, your trek will begin. You will follow the river to a small bridge, which you will cross. After that, you will climb over the Sure and make your way to Bourscheid, where you will spend the night in a hotel in the village. You will be trekking for approximately 5.5 kilometers, covering 20 kilometers.

Wiltz - Kautenbach - Bourscheid

Today, you will leave the village and explore the beautiful Bourscheid castle. After that, you will make your way down to the village of Michelau befroe returning to Bourscheid, where you will spend the night in a hotel. You will be trekking for approximately 4.5 kilometers, covering 16 kilometers.

Bourscheid - Bourscheid

Today, you will trek through small villages and meadows to the village of Heischtergronn. Afterwards, you will make your way to the village of Eschdorf, where you will spend the night in a hotel. You will be trekking for approximately 5.5 kilometers, covering 20 kilometers.

Bourscheid - Eschdorf

Today, you will venture to the Haute-Sure lake and cross one of its arms. From there, you will go to Insenborn before descending to the village of Esch-sur-Sûre, where you will spend the night in a hotel. You will be trekking for approximately 4.5 kilometers, covering 17 kilometers.

On the last day of the trip, you will venture to the top of the hill at Esch sur Sure, where you can enjoy some great views. After that, you will make your way to the villages of Buderscheid and Nocher before trekking to Wiltz. You will be trekking for approximately 4.5 kilometers, covering 17 kilometers.

The scenery you will get to see throughout the trails of **Mullerthal** is unforgettable. It is absolutely stunning, so much so that you will leave thinking you had spent a weekend in a storybook!

There are just so many colours to behold throughout the **Mullerthal** area that your senses will feel exhausted at the end of each day. And when you combine those magnificent colours with **giant boulders** as big as buildings, flowing **rivers** and cascading **waterfalls**, you will be in a state of constant wonder.

As a result of the spectacular surroundings, the primary focus of this **2 day hiking adventure** will be about roaming. While it is true that we will be walking on already established trails, you will have every opportunity to explore whenever you wish. And because this is a **hiking trip**, our pace will be deliberate. Thus giving you all of the time you need to gaze at and photograph **Mullerthal’s** incredible natural landscape.

We will cover approximately **18 kilometres per day** during the trip. And after the first day’s trek, we will rest in a simple, but comfortable **youth hostel**. It is also worth mentioning that even at night, under the cover of darkness and moonlight, the scenery is amazing.
