Santiago, the capital of Chile, is very close to the Andes and the Pacific Ocean. At 160km we find the Portillo Ski Resort, a famous destination among winter sports lovers. It is **home to the Portillo Ice Fest**, the oldest and most prestigious ice climbing competition in South America.

On this ice climbing trip, **we will climb the frozen waterfall of “El Manto”.** This amazing spot features **a 120m climbing route with 3 pitches**. Located in the heart of the Andes, it guarantees an **awesome winter experience**.

Furthermore, this tour is a **great chance to discover the Paso Internacional Los Libertadores**, a mountain pass between Argentina and Chile. Also called Cristo Redentor (Spanish for “Christ the Redeemer”), this 3km tunnel was opened in 1980.

**Join me for one or more days of informative, challenging and rewarding ice climbing in the Cordillera Central near Santiago, Chile!**

After meeting in the capital, we will head into this scenic mountain range, eventually arriving at some of the **best ice climbing terrain in the Southern Hemisphere.** We will set up camp nearby and spend the night in the tranquil and scenic Andes.

During the climb, you will learn new skills and techniques depending on your level of expertise. **No prior ice climbing experience is required**, but some experience in rope management and a good level of physical fitness are recommended for this trip.

As you might imagine, the weather in this region is generally pretty cold during this time of year. It’s not usually stormy, however. This means we should be able to spend all day climbing!

There is plenty of ice to climb! In this case, we will set up camp nearby and spend the night in the tranquil and scenic Andes.

### **There are few outdoor activities that match the thrills and sheer adventure of ice climbing. That is why I am glad to offer this thorough and comprehensive 5-day ice fall climbing course near Santiago, Chile.**

The goal of this course is to provide participants with many of the tools necessary to ensure safe and successful ice climbing.

The course will consist of **5 consecutive field days**. Thus giving you ample time to put every lesson learned into immediate practice on the **ice falls of the Andes, near Santiago**.

Some of what will be covered during this course includes the following.

**Yerba Loca** has alpine routes of several lengths that any ice climber wants to enjoy. Some of them are the Chilean icefalls of the Marmolejo, San José or El Plomo. Although they are technical routes you can learn how to face them in a safe way. All you have to do is joining **me on this 4-day course** in Yerba Loca.

The main goal of the course is giving you the **basic ice climbing progression and safety techniques**, in order you get the **autonomy and confidence** needed for **ascents of Grade 4.** As you may know, they are really necessary to cope with multi-pitch ascensions in a safe way.
