Let me take you **ice climbing in the Hautes Alpes** and discover that this activity can be just as much fun as climbing on rock.

Contrary to popular belief, ice climbing is not particularly dangerous and **you don't need to be cold**. It's all a matter of planning! The key to not being cold is to **remain dry** during the climb. The right gear is crucial to allow you not to get wet and not to sweat excessively.

What is also great about ice climbing is that **you can have a great time even as a beginner**. Join me on one of these ice climbing sessions and you'll understand what I'm talking about!

Depending on conditions, we'll choose between several spots in the Hautes Alpes: **Freissinières, Ceillac (Queyras), and La Grave** are among the options. I will of course also take your wishes into account, so don't hesitate to let me know if you have a specific interest in one of these spots. The good point is that these places are less crowded than the other classics of the Alps like Cogne in Italy.

In the Hautes Alpes, you'll find **ice climbing routes to suit everyone**: long, short, steep, not steep, etc. So let me know what your expectations are so that I can plan accordingly. I particularly enjoy coaching my clients, allow them to progress and reach their next ice climbing level.

Ice climbing in the Hautes Alpes with a guide

Ice climbing in winter is an **ephemeral luxury**. Every winter the ice returns, slowly thickens, stabilizes and creates a new climbing wall. Those who have already practiced ice climbing know it from the first day: we come back to ice climbing, as snow comes back in winter!

But if you’ve never tried it before, you may imagine a terrifying activity, during which you are so cold that it is impossible to enjoy yourself. This 1-day ice climbing course will show you how wrong you are! We will enjoy a fun and exciting day on the ice, **without fear and without cold**!

You need to be in good physical condition to take this course and some rock climbing experience is definitely helpful. However, no technical skills are required.

Additionally, a maximum of 4 people can take this course together. Bear in mind that this ice climbing course is even **suitable for children over 12 years old**. So **come as a family** and enjoy an unforgettable day together!

What are the best ice climbing spots in the Hautes Alpes? We have several options to choose from: **Le Vallon du Fournel, Vallouise/Pelvoux, Freissinières vallée and, finally, Ceillac**. We will choose our destination depending on ice conditions.

**Do you dream of ice climbing? Let’s try it together for a weekend, with an initiation climb in the Ecrins Massif?**

During this trip, the goal is to teach you the basic techniques that will allow you to gain autonomy on easy routes.

On the first day, we will have different workshops. The following day we take a multi-pitch route, applying the techniques that we just learnt.

Of course I can adapt this 2-day program to suit your wishes and the time you have available.

**We can choose from many different cool sites! From simple cascades of one rope length to very engaged walls with international reputation. For example, we can go to Queyras with Ceillac and Aiguilles, Freissinières, Le Fournel, Cervières or La Grave.**

Depending on the program and requests, I will take up to 4 people. If you are a larger group, I will ask my friend Lionel, UIAGM high mountain guide as well, to join us.

Additionally, I organise trips for more experienced climbers that wish to improve their skills.

If you are in the Ecrins Massif region for many days, we can consider combining several winter activities. For example, off-piste ski in a surrounding station, or ski touring.

Ice climbing in the Ecrins and Queyras

**Freissinieres** is positioned like a hidden gem in the **Hautes-Alpes** region of **France**. Located within a large valley, this  **commune** rests in between a great deal of beautiful natural sights. There is a dense forest on one side, and rocky landscape on the other. There are rivers and lakes that include **Faravel** and **Palluel**. And there are several peaks looming above, including **Felix Neff (3,243m)**, **Petit Pinier (3,100m)** and the **Grand Pinier (3,117m)**.

To put it simply, **Freissinieres** is a beautiful place.

And the purpose of this trip is to give you the chance to enjoy a **full day** of **ice climbing** in that beautiful place.

There are a number of **ice falls** in **Freissinieres** that form in the **winter months**. Each one is wonderfully unique, and presents its own challenges and thrills. The advantage of that kind of variety is that we will get to figure out exactly which **ice fall** will suit you best, based on your **skill level**, **fitness level**, and **wishes**. But regardless of what you choose, throughout the day, you will get to scale a beautiful **ice fall**. And whenever you look around, you will also get to marvel at the spectacular scenery that **Freissinieres** has to offer.

I will make sure that your experience is enjoyable from start to finish. I will also make sure that you feel safe at all times. And finally, I will do my best to try to teach you all I can, so your next **ice climbing adventure** will be even better!

**Ceillac** is a small, sparsely populated commune in the **Hautes-Alpes region** of **south east France**. It is a beautiful area located near the spectacular _Parc Naturel regional du Queyras_.

The commune is also located near the **Italian border**. Thus allowing visitors to see several impressive peaks that include **Monte Viso (3,841m)**. I believe that just visiting **Ceillac** is an exciting trip on its own. However, while you're with me, you will have the chance to spend an entire day **ice climbing**.

During the winter season, there are several **ice falls** that form around the **Ceillac** commune. Those falls include popular choices like the _Les Formes du Chaos_, among others. However, regardless of whichever **ice fall** you decide on, I know you will have a great time.

Due to the precarious nature of **ice climbing**, I will make sure you are properly guided throughout the day. I will see to it that you are safe at all times. And I will also see to it that you are learning as much as possible, so you can use whatever skills you've gained in future **ice climbing** adventures.

A few of the skills I will teach you include how to properly **chain your lengths**, as well as **proper equipment usage and management**, and much more.
