Mountain Climbing in Ankogel: Top Outdoor Adventures Awaiting You

Ankogel is a mountain that rises to 3,252 meters above sea level in the Ankogel Group, a sub-group of mountains in the Central Eastern Alps. Here you can discover some of the highest peaks in Austria, offering incredible panoramas of the natural beauty. Ankogel is considered a milestone among the history of alpine climbing, because it was one of the first high mountains to be summited all the way back in 1762. Spectacular scenery

Once you arrive to the summit of Ankogel you’ll get access to some of the most stunning panoramas in the whole Alps. You’ll get a true bird’s eye view of countless classic mountains, like the Kaiser mountain range, the Dolomite mountains, and even Grossglockner, which at 3,798 meters is the highest mountain in Austria. Ankogel has a front-row seat to some truly spectacular scenery.

Excellent alpine access

Although the mountain stretches to 3,252 meters above sea level, there is a lift that takes you from Mallnitz to 2,631 meters on the mountain. This make Ankogel one of the most accessible alpine peaks to climb. There are, however, other difficulties to consider despite the relative ease. There is a collection of challenging spots that you will have to overcome to finally reach the summit.

Under the radar

Despite its relative ease to conquer, Ankogel is often overlooked for its bigger brothers like Grossglockner, which is actually its blessing in disguise. With much of the traffic driving towards the highest mountains in Austria, it’ll seem as though you have much of this beautiful mountain to yourself. And anyway, once you’re at the summit you’ll get incredible views of those mountains.
