The **second highest peak in Austria** after the **Grossglockner**, **Wildspitze (3770m)** is a spectacular mountain. Immensely prominent, there are few mountains that truly capture the enormity and sheer beauty of the Alps quite like **Wildspitze**. And on this trip, you will be able to reach the great peak’s summit in just **2 days during the summer season**!

During this adventure, we will be making our way to the mountain’s **southern summit**. You will get to reach the peak’s summit in just **2 days**.

On day 1, we will go to the hut and, on day 2, we will make the ascent to the summit, where you will marvel at the tremendous views. The ascent itself will have some tough spots. However, I will see to it you are properly, safely and securely guided every step the way.

In order to participate in this trip, you should have **prior experience climbing glaciated peaks**. You should also be in **good physical condition**.

Join me on an adventure-filled 7 days as we climb the three highest summits in Austria. This is a unique mountaineering experience where we’ll get to cover a lot of ground and see many of Austria’s best alpine areas like Tirol, Salzburg and Carinthia.

Our first challenge of the trip will be to climb to the summit of Wildspitze. Before that, however, we’ll spend a day getting used to the altitude. I’ll also take the opportunity to instruct you on mountaineering procedure and safety. On this trip, we’ll be traversing a glacier at one point, so it’s important that you have all the necessary information and equipment before attempting this.

Once we’re all sorted, we’ll spend the next few days climbing mountains, breathing in the crisp alpine air and enjoying the views.

After we’ve climbed Wildspitze, we’ll tackle the summit of Großvenediger (not on the same day, don’t worry!). We’ll finish the trip with a climb to the summit of the largest mountain in Austria, Großglockner at 3798 metres. This is a once in a lifetime experience and you’ll never forget the beautiful alpine views you get both on the way and on from the top.

I’ll pick you up from either Munich or Salzburg Airport. If you have your own car we can meet directly in Vent. From Vent, we’ll head to the Breslauer Hut which will be our home for the next two days.

Arrival Day

We’ll start with an easy day on day two. We’ll give you all the information you need regarding glacier travel, walking with crampons, and more. This day will also help you acclimatise to the altitude.  We’ll have dinner together in the Breslauer Hut.

Acclimatisation day

On day three we’ll head to the summit of the Wildspitze which sits at 3666 metres. We’ll return to the hut at the end of the day to relax and sleep.

In the morning we’ll jump in the car and drive to the Base of Großvenediger. We’ll spend the day traveling and then getting to the hut where we’ll sleep for the night.

This is the day that we reach the summit of Großvenediger! We’ll start early so that we can reach it before lunch. From the summit we’ll be able to take in views of nearby Großglockner (our final challenge for the trip). When we arrive back down to camp we’ll pack up and head to Kals am Großglockner and the famous Stüdlhut, where we’ll stay overnight.

Day six is a big day because we’ll be tackling Austria’s highest peak, Großglockner which sits at 3798 metres. After we reach the summit we’ll have some time to take in the views before we descend back to the Stüdlhut.

We’ll descend from the hut and then I’ll take you back to the airport for your departure.

Join me on this 2-day trip and reach the summit of **Wildspitze (3774m)**, the highest mountain in Tyrol. This very varied and impressive tour takes you over glaciers and a gentle rock ridge. From the top, we will have a fantastic view over the Ötztal Alps.

Bear in mind this ascent requires an very good fitness level, as to hike up 8 to 9 hours per day, although no crampons experience is needed, as we will have some training time.

We will meet in Vent, where we will take a chairlift up to 2365m. From there we will walk (2,5h) to the **summit of Wilder Mann (3019 m)**, to acclimatize to altitude.  Then we will descend to the Rofenkar glacier for crampon training and continue to the **Breslauer Hut (2844 m)** where we stay over night.

On the next day, we start early to climb the Wildspitze. Over a slight via Ferrata we reach the Mitterkarjoch (3470m). From there we continue via the **Taschach glacier** to the **southwest ridge to the summit**. From the top, we will get breathtaking views over the surrounding mountains.

We will descend the same way, or if the conditons are good we make the traverse of Wildspitze and descend via the Rofenkar glacier back to the chairlift. It will takes us in total about 8 to 9 hours.

The wild and picturesque Austrian Alps await you on this 8-day mountaineering course, which will see you perched upon the summit of  Wildspitze by the end of the week!

Our adventure begins with a bit of learning as we get you up to speed on a variety of essential mountaineering techniques, including knot tying, belaying, and crampon and ice axe usage.

We will practice belaying and maneuvering on the Ziegelwies wall, which is a 20-minute hike from our hotel in Füssen, before packing up the next day and heading out to Piztal in Tyrol. Once we arrive at the trailhead, we will ascend over the Taschach glacier and onto the Taschachhaus mountain hut.

We will get an early start the next day and put some of our newly acquired skills to the test as we climb the Sexegerten Spitze. This peak is perfect for learning by doing and, as we go along, we will learn how to tie in, and mountaineer in the most energy-efficient manner and climb a Via Ferrata.

After another day of learning different anchoring and safety techniques, we will get an early start and make our way back over the Taschach glacier and on to Tyrol’s tallest peak – Wildspitze.

After taking in the breathtaking views from the summit, we will head back down to the mountain hut and enjoy a well-deserved evening of great food and even better beer. The next morning, we will have a brief session learning self-rescue techniques before heading back to the hotel in Füssen and saying our goodbyes.

Mountaineering Course with Wildspitze Summit

Looking for an exhilarating program where you can improve your skills and discover beautiful mountains? Then this 1-week course in Tyrol is perfect for you.

The purpose of this program is for you to acquire all the necessary knowledge and tools to enjoy mountaineering in glaciated summits with safety. The contents of the course include the **use of the equipment**, **knots**, **crevasse rescue**, **belaying skills** and **route planning**, among others. All of these abilities will be very useful for your future snow and ice climbs.

Apart from learning and practicing, this **1-week program** offers you the chance to climb very important mountains in Tyrol, such as the **Wildspitze**. At **3772 meters**, it’s the highest mountain in the **Eastern Rhaetian Alps** and the second in Austria.

As for the itinerary, we’ll meet in **Füssen im Allgäu**, in **Germany**, at **5 pm** have a short briefing and prepare the equipment. Please, take a look at the bottom of the page for a more detailed description.

Regarding the requirements, keep in mind that you should have **prior hiking experience** and a **very good level of fitness**. You should be able to face an elevation gain of **1,300 meters** per day. However, it’s not mandatory to have prior rock and ice experience.

We’ll meet at 5 pm in Füssen im Allgäu. After a briefing, we’ll have dinner and begin practicing knots.

On day 2, we’ll drive to Mittelberg and begin a 2-3 hour hike to the Taschachhaus, situated at 2,440 meters above sea level. Then, we’ll do the check-in in the hut and start with our training.

After breakfast, we’ll practice walking on ice and snow and I’ll teach you about the use of the equipment. Later, we’ll plan the route for the following day.

Day 4 will be the day of our first summit: the Sexegerten Spitze. The mountain is located at an altitude of 3,400 meters and we’ll face an elevation gain of around 1,000 meters (5-6 hours).

On this day, we’ll focus on anchor and rescue systems, both essential mountaineering skills.

Keep learning and practicing

We’ll begin very early, at 4 am, because we’ll go for a 10-hour climb to the highest mountain in Tyrol. On this climb, we’ll face an elevation gain of 1,200 meters. The summit will allow us to contemplate astonishing views. Finally, we’ll celebrate our achievement with a nice dinner in the hut.

The sight from the top is only limited by the curvature of the Earth. It  reaches from the Bernese Alps in the west to the Schober Group in the east. Also, the Wildspitze has twin peaks: The north summit (3,765 m) and the slightly higher and rocky south summit (3768 m).

The Breslauer Hut and the Vernagt Hut are the starting points for this tour. They’re also ideal for multi-day trips.
