Monte Viso attracts climbers from all over the world. It’s the highest mountain in the Cottian Alps section of the Italian Alps and its striking pyramid shape, which juts out over the Po Valley, can be seen for miles.
The journey to the summit of Monte Viso is not an overly difficult climb. You don’t need previous experience but you will need to have a high level of fitness. This climb is done over two days and you stay overnight in the Quintino Sella Hut. There are a few different routes you can follow. The main two are the Main Route that goes up the south face and the East Route. The East Route is slightly more difficult.
During the summer while the weather is warm in the area, it can still be freezing up higher on Monte Viso.
Fly to Turin then take the bus or drive to Pian del Re to start your climb.
