Piz Bernina (4,048m), also known as Pizzo Bernina, is the **highest mountain in the Eastern Alps**. Part of the Rhaetian region, it is near the Swiss resorts of Pontresina and St. Moritz. This huge peak was first climbed in 1850 and is nowadays a **famous destination among mountaineering lovers.**

**This 2-day tour starts in Diavolezza, in the Canton of Graubünden**, in Switzerland. From there we will cross a stunning glacier to reach the Marco e Rosa Hut (3,610m), within Italian territory, where we will spend the night.

Then, the next day, we will keep ascending on this **impressive glacial and rocky environment**, all the way up the top of Piz Bernina. From the summit, we will enjoy **breathtaking views of the Swiss and the Italian Alps**!

Please note that this trip requires a **good fitness level and some mountaineering experience**: we’ll need to overcome some climbing passages and icy slopes.

The **Bernina** is a mountain range in the east of **Switzerland** and north of **Italy**. **Piz Bernina**, rising to 4049m, is its highest point. It has many impressive peaks and in this occasion we will ascend three of them.

There are many superlatives describing this special place. "The Queen of the East Alps" is one of them, and another is "The festival room of the Alps".

During this traverse we climb the main peaks of the Bernina massif. We start the trip at Pontresina, an idyllic village. The first adventure is climbing up to the Tschierva hut. Then we aim for the **Piz Roseg**, the second highest peak of the massif. It's not as popular as Piz Bernina, but the climb is outstanding. The views from the summit are a perfect reward for this challenging ascent.

Our second objective is **Piz Morterratsch**. The scenery from its peak is particularly fantastic. Again, a technically challenging ascent.

On the fourth day we climb the **bianco ridge**, "the classic tour" in this area. A perfect combination of rock and snow ridge. After a long day we reach the Marco e Rosa hut on the Italian side.

And the last adventure is the traverse of the **Piz Palü** summits on a sharp ridge. We return to the valley via Diavolezza gondola.

We meet at Pontresina train station at 1PM. We check the equipment and start the hike to the Tshierva hut. About 3h hiking takes us to this hut which has excellent views over Piz Roseg, our goal for the next day. We have dinner and do briefing of the Tour.

The first of our main goals. An alpine start and a long day, mixed terrain: glaciers, rocky ridge and steep snow and ice. About 9-11h (1500m) of touring time. Night back at the Tschierva hut.

We tour to the beautiful Piz Morteratsch. Today’s ascent is not as challenging as the Piz Roseg and the summit offers great views to the Bianco ridge that we will climb the next day. About 6h of touring time (1200m).

Another alpine start to climb the classic route to Piz Bernina. Long, challenging and rewarding day. About 9-11h of touring time. We stay at Marco e Rosa hut (1500m).

A tour on astonishing snow and rocky ridges traversing the peaks of Piz Palü. After about 6h of touring (700m) we arrive to Diavolezza Gondola station and take a ride back down. The tour ends about 2PM at Diavolezza.

**This is your chance to ascend the most beautiful peaks of the Bernina. We will cross challenging paths in this wonderful part of Switzerland.** 

During this demanding and exciting week we will climb select peaks in the area. The itinerary includes the highest peak of the massif, **Piz Bernina** (4049m), one of the 4000s. We will also get to the top of **Piz Morteratsch** (3751m), **Piz Roseg** (3937m) and **Piz Palü** (3905m).

For this tour you need to be in very good condition to walk up to 12 hours a day. In addition, you need to have experience handling crampons and ice axe. We will climb up to difficulty III.

Bernina peaks 5-day climbing tour

Join me in this 3-day climbing trip to the **Piz Bernina (4049 m)**, not only the highest, but also the only 4000 metres peak in the **Eastern Alps**! Besides, we will ascend by the **Biancograt, an impressive, knife-edge ridge** on the north side of the Piz Bernina.

During 3 days, we will enjoy one of the most amazing tours in the Alps! It's the **Swiss-Italian Alps** at their best! On the first day, we will meet at the **Pontresina train station**, in Switzerland. Then, a horse-drawn carriage will take us to the Rose Valley, to ascend to the Tschierva Hut (2573 m)

On the second day of the tour, I will guide you up to the **Piz Bernina summit (4049 m)**. That night we will sleep in the Marco e Rosa Hut (3597 m). Climbing up and back to the hut will take us about 10 to 12 hours in total.

We will also reach a summit on the third day! I will take you up to the **Piz Palü (3905 m).** Then, we will descend to the Diavolezza cable car station and back to the valley. You can check the detailed itinerary below this text.

Please be aware that **you need to be in a very good physical condition**. Also, you need to be fit, and a good head for heights!.

We will meet at the station in Pontresina. We will take the horse-drawn carriage to the Rose valley. We will then ascend to the Tschierva hut (2573 m). It will take us about hours.  (↑ 500 m)

We will start early in the morning. In order to get to the actual start of the ridge, we will have to overcome the first rock passages. Then we will go over the striking snow ridge and a slight rock section (III) to the highest peak of the Eastern Alps: the Piz Bernina (4049 m). After the summit, we will climb over the Spalla Ridge to the Marco e Rosa Hut (3597 m) where we will spend the night. (10/12 hours-↑ 1500 m ↓ 500 m)

Today we will get to the top of the Piz Palü (3905 m) crossing with a magnificent panorama. We will traverse the peaks of the Bellavista and climb over the West Ridge and the western summit to the main summit of the Piz Palü. We will reach the Diavolezza cable car station. It will , take us to the valley via the eastern summit and the Pers glacier. ( 7 hours approx / ↑ 300m, ↓ 950 m).
