What should I know about Mountain Climbing Kazakhstan?
Located in the heart of Central Asia, most of Kazakhstan is pretty flat. However, the mighty Tian Shen mountain range runs through the very southwestern portion of the country and make for some incredible mountain climbing.
At 7.010 meters high and sitting on a shared border with both China and Kyrgyzstan, Khan Tengri is the country’s tallest peak. However, there are numerous others throughout the mountain range that make for excellent climbs.
Among these are Pik Talgar (4.979 meters), from which views out over the steppe and Almaty are unbeatable.
Charyn Canyon, which is the country’s most visited tourist destination, and Tuyuk-Su Gorge are also excellent spots to practice necessary mountain climbing skills and prepare for a full assault on one of the country’s highest peaks.
