Located in the northwest of Africa, Morocco has a lengthy coastline covering both the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. It has a rugged and remote interior punctuated by mountains. And large sections of the southeast lies in the Sahara Desert. The capital of Morocco is Rabat, which lies at the mouth of the Bou Regreg, and is one of the four imperial cities of the country. Its medina (old town) is listed as a World Heritage Site. The largest city in the country is the port of Casablanca, with a population of approximately 3.4 million urban inhabitants.
Morocco has a moderate and subtropical climate, with cool breezes from the Atlantic and Mediterranean. As you travel inland the temperatures are more extreme, with colder winters and hotter summers.
