Description

Situated in the heart of northern Finland, Pyhä-Luosto National Park sprawls over 142 square kilometers of old growth forest, unique wetland and modest mountain scenery.

Among the best ways to explore this stunningly scenic national park in the winter is to head out in a pair of snowshoes and make some tracks!

Over the course of our 2-day adventure, we will head through the Rykimäkuru Gorge and beyond, well into Pyhä-Luosto National Park.

The adventure begins in Pyhätunturi, where we will meet up the day before the trip to go over the plan and rent out the equipment (included in price).  The following morning, we will meet up and head out into the heart of the national park to begin the trip.

Over the next 5.5 hours, we will snowshoe through the old growth forest, marveling at the 400-year-old trees and enjoying the solitude of being alone in the woods. By  4pm, we will have reached the Kuukkeli Wilderness Hut.

We’ll spend the rest of the day heating up the hut, exploring a bit and experiencing an authentic Finnish sauna in the evening.

The following day, we will pack up our gear (which we will be pulling behind us in traditional sleds) and head out to get some views of the Lappish fells.

After a pause for lunch back at the hut, we will continue on through the Rykimäkuru Gorge, which was uniquely formed through a tear in the Earth’s crust, and eventually return to the starting point of our trip.

So what are you waiting for? Book now for this fun, scenic and unique 2-day snowshoeing adventure in Pyhä-Luosto National Park!

Great wilderness experience with Hannele and Claudia at Bliss Adventure in mid-January. Beautiful winter wilderness landscape and overnight stay in rustic but very comfortable log cabin. Remote and undisturbed but at the same time not too strenuous and appropriate for beginner/intermediate level skiers. Excellent organization and guiding. Highly recommended.
