Description

Located in the Giffre Valle, Samoëns is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in France. And for good reason. Its beautiful stone buildings and scenery account for its good reputation. Samoëns is also a great spot from which to make snowshoeing excursions in the surrounding summits. Our 7-day snowshoeing in Samoëns trip allows you to visit some of the most beautiful sites in the region, whether you are experienced or not!

We begin our tour by meeting for a briefing at the hotel in Samoëns where we we will be staying. Then, we will share a lovely dinner together before we begin touring the next day. Because we will have different tours each day, we will be able to explore a variety of landscapes and locations. Also, we will have time to adjust to snowshoeing. For this purpose, we will start with a an easy snowshoe excursion on the first day and then work up to the final summit challenge. This means that although a good fitness level is necessary, prior snowshoeing experience is not required.

Every day we will walk around 5-10 kilometres, with ascents between 400 and 720 metres. Some of the landscapes that we will encounter include lovely forests, valleys, peaks, and cliffs.  But it won’t all be hard work. We will leave some room for rest, and of course for enjoyment. And then, after a thrilling day in the mountains, we will always have a warm hotel to return to where we will enjoy a hearty and well deserved dinner.

Ready to explore some remote areas in one of France’s most beautiful regions? Book your place now and join me on this 7-day Snowshoeing in Samoëns trip. I will be happy to be your guide!

Day 2: La Bourgeoise

On the first day of our tour, we will start off  with a nearby summit to ease  into our snowshoes.  At 1770 metres, La Bourgeoise is the perfect spot from which to see all of the area we will be exploring. Hopefully we will be able to have lunch at the cross on the summit, before taking a different route back down to Samoëns. On this route, we will pass below the famous Col de Joux Plane.

Luggage access

Walking: approx 5 hours

Distance: 5km

Altitude gain: +700m

Day 3: Pointe Ratti

On the second day, we will kick off with a transfer to the popular ski town of Morzine. Then, we will climb steadily up to the Col de l’Encrenaz, where we can stop for a coffee before tackling our summit. From there, we will follow a ridgeline to Pointe Ratti (1923m), climbing above the treeline, and enjoying the views of the rugged peaks and cliffs of the Roc d’Enfer.

Accommodation: Hotel, dinner included

Walking: approx 4.5 hours

Distance: 6km

Altitude gain: +490m

Day 4: Pointe de la Golèse

After breakfast, to start our fourth day of snowshoeing, we will take a short transfer to the beginning of the trail. A winding climb will take us above the treeline, past ancient farm buildings, and on to open pastures. Once we reach a snowy bowl, we will continue on a ridgeline that will lead us to the summit of Pointe de la Golèse (1835m).

Accommodation: Hotel, dinner included

Luggage access

Walking: approx 6 hours

Distance: 10km

Day 5: Le Partaset

A trasnfer to Bonnavaz, past a  beautiful old chapel will take us to a forest trail. Then, we will arrive into an open area beneath the Pointe d’Uble, as we head towards Le Paraset (1606m). Finally, from the summit we will enjoy the great views of Pointe Ratti and the surrounding mountains, even as far as the Dents du Midi. Because this is one of the shorter snowshoeing excursions on our trip, we will be able to rest before aiming for our final summit.

Luggage access

Walking: approx 4 hours

Distance: 5.5km

Altitude gain: +420m

Day 6: Bostan Valley

To get to the stunning Bostan Valley, we will meander up through the forest, beneath the jagged limestone cliffs. Hopefully, if we are lucky, at the Refuge de Bostan the guardian will be there to make us hot chocolate, or even lunch! After,  we can explore this beautiful remote valley, and enjoy  the mountains.

Accommodation: Hotel, dinner included

Luggage access

Walking: approx 5.5 hours

Distance: 10km

Altitude gain: +714m

Day 7: Tête de la Sallaz

As we will have saved the best for last, the 7th day of our tour will prove to be a fun challenge. Our aim will be reaching the Tête de la Sallaz summit at 2026 metres. First we will take a transfer to the village of Romme.  As we climb,  we will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the Mont Blanc Massif and the nearby Pointe d’Areu.

We were Very pleased With Emma guiding us through the hikes. We really enjoyed the entire trip:) As we were just our family we would have loved a little more flexibility hiking in our own pace - felt we were rushed a bit too much. We should have informed Emma about this but we were too compliant:) The explore-share platform was a bit rigid/ formel - it was not clear that exploreshare hired another firm to do the job. Also quite a High fee to explore share We were first told to have an (expensive) extended travel insurance (with mountain rescue) up to departure / after we had plaid. We should have been told this before signing up. Another mistake were that explore share had told us last payment were due closer to departure - so in a rush we had to pay up 60 days before as this is cloud9advenures policy. This made us uncertain if it was fraud. But it wasn’t:) overall pleased with our trip

AMAZING! This was a last minute decision and my first multi day trekking tour and it far exceeded my expectations. The communication and preparation was comprehensive and accurate. Our guide (Lindsay) was phenomenal. The route was the perfect mix of challenge and comfort. I will definitely be booking my next hiking trek thru Emma.
