Explore the Zillertal Alps of Austria during an action-packed day of alpine hiking from the town of Mayrhofen to the heights of the Kassel Hut.
Located in the Austrian state of Tyrol, the spectacular Zillertal Alps are a mountain range that stands just south of its namesake river, and is part of the Central Eastern Alps.
Strongly glaciated, the mountains here are very popular for a variety of outdoor sports, from skiing and snowshoeing to mountaineering and hiking.
We’ll begin in the alpine town of Mayrhofen, which rests 1 hour away from the state capital of Innsbruck. It is sandwiched between the Penken and Ahorn mountains.
Our approach contains a much varied route, with stunning natural views, including of the Stilluptal and the reservoir.
The steady streams of water and the native flora are also well-worth spotting during the alpine hike.
We will cover approximately 11.5 kilometers that will take around 5 hours to complete. Our lowest point begins at 1,124 meters, while we will reach a peak of 2,177 meters at the hut.
