Easy to access and sunny, Toubkal is a great trekking location and one that will let you experience the unique terrain and local culture of the Atlas Mountains. Itinerary

Day 1: From Marrakech to Imlil to Aroumd to Sidi Chamarouch to the Toubkal Refuge

We’ll transfer you from your accommodation in Marrakech to the little village of Imlil (its about a 1 hour 30 minute drive) where we’ll begin our trek.

As we head along the Imlil Valley, we will pass the village of Aroumd and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch.

We’ll continue east, crossing the flood plains and following a route that takes us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. You’ll see lots of tourists and pilgrims as we travel around this area.

From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline and eventually to the Toukbal Refuge at 3206m.

Day 2: Toubkal Summit to Imlil

Today will be an early start with approximately 10 hours of hiking!

Our route to the summit of Jebel Toubkal takes us up the south cirque, across the stream above the refuge and on to the mountain’s peak.

The walking is relatively straight forward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile though!

When you reach the summit you will be greeted with breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape and countryside: from the Marrakech Plain to the High Atlas in the north and even as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara.

To make out descent, we will retrace our steps and head back towards Imlil, our final destination of the day.

We felt well looked after the whole time and enjoyed every minute. The food was plentiful and delicious, and all equipment hired was of high quality.
