Description
This unique 8-day Toubkal ascent and High Atlas circuit trek is an amazing way to discover Moroccan landscapes and culture.
After arriving in Marrakech, you will go the Atlas Mountain starting from Imlil, passing over the highest passes in the Toubkal National Park, including Likmet at 3550m and Ouannoums ar 3600m. You will also camp out on the shores of the most stunning lake in the High Atlas, Lac d’Ifni. Finally, you will have the chance to climb Mount Toubkal, which at 4167m is the highest peak in North Africa. You can find a detailed itinerary below.
If you wish, you can also extend this trek a few more days to climb Toubkal’s neighboring peak or over the Azzaden valley via Aguelzim Pass 3660m. It is also possible to add a camel trek along the Atlantic coast. Please check with us for more ideas.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive at Marrakech airport and stay in Riad or Hotel.
Day 2: Marrakech – Imlil-Tachddirt
We will meet our team and once all our luggage is loaded, we will set off along the valley towards Tacheddirt. Soon the trail begins to rise as we climb up to the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2279m). We will then descend to the pretty village of Ouaneskra and continue, for a further half-hour or so to Tacheddirt (3000m), where we generally camp near the river or stay in a local lodge. 5 hours walking / +560 m.
Day 3: Tacheddirt-Azib Likemt
After early breakfast we start our first hard day ,when we go all the way up to one of the highest passes in the Toubkal area, called Tizi Likemt 3555m, some nuts will be served on the top and trek down to the shelters of Likemnt where we set our camp. 6 to 7 hours walking. / +1255 // – 800m.
Day 4: Azib Likemt-Tizi n'Ourai-Amsouzert
We walk along the Ourain river until the Ourain Pass 3100m, very nice view from there over the villages of Amsouzert and also the Toubkal peak from the south face trek down to Amsouzert, where we stay overnight in a local house. 6 to 7 hours walk. +400//-1400m.
Day 5: Amsouzert-Ifni Lake
The day will consist of a short 4-hour hike passing by many villages on the way to get to the beautiful lake that is surrounded by rocky mountains. We will be there by lunchtime and spend the afternoon on the lake….+400 –night in camp.
Day 6: Ifni Lake-Nelter Hut
Today, everyone will be ready early morning to start going uphill to the highest peak in the Toubkal area 3660m, and then get down to the Toubkal base camp at 3207m. We will spend the night in a refuge or tents. 7 hours walk..+1560m //-453m
Day 7: Mt. Toubkal Summit- Refuge
We leave very early in the morning at about 5h30 or 6 to get to the highest peak in North Africa, at an altitude of 4167m. We will enjoy a very nice view of the Atlas mountain chain and its Berber villages. Then, we will trek down slowly to the refuge, a 6 to 7 hours walk.+960m – 960m. after lunch trek down for another 3hours to Imlil and transfer to Marrakech.

I am Mohamed Toudaoui, experienced certified trekking guides based in Imlil, near Marrakech. I am the co-founder of the Mountain Travel Morocco (MTM) Trekking Company which is the first and only High Atlas Mountain-based trekking agency. For more than 20 years, we have been guiding visitors to discover the best parts of Morocco, exploring hidden cornes alongside the Berber people othe Moroccan High Atlas and the magical desert.
I speak English, French, Spanish and German. I am a fully certified mountain guide. I am a graduate of the Mountain Guides Training Center in Morocco (Centre de Formation Aux Metiers de Montagne CFAMM). We are also graduates from the Federation Royale de Ski et Montagne. Our company is registered at the Minister of Tourism with an official license.
Your safety is our number one priority. Our leaders and guides have undertaken the Wilderness First Aid Medical Course. They are competent to deal with any adverse situations during the tours. Our guides, porters and mule handlers are well paid, well fed and treated ethically.
We are ecologically aware and will not do anything to damage the beautiful environment of Morocco. We are also good listeners. Understanding people is an important skill in the High Atlas.

Our trip to the Atlas Mountains & summit of Toubkal was one of the best experiences of my partner and I’s lives. Mohammad the organiser was friendly, helpful and made us feel safe and at home. Jamal our guide was amazing. He ensured we made it to the top of the mountain whilst explaining local culture and history. We formed a strong bond and I was very sad to be leaving. As the weather was good and we made the summit and back in 2 days we had time to mountain bike through the valley for the third day, again with Jamal showing us the ropes and treating us to fresh mint tea. We had a fantastic three days organised meticulously by Mohamed and led by Hasan. Hiking up Toubkal was beautiful, and Hasan even took us up another peak too. The food and accomodation were exceptional and everyone was so friendly. I wouldn't hesitate t recommend and will definitely return!

Abdul was a fantastic guide and made the journey very enjoyable. He was very knowledgeable about the area and made sure to keep a pace which was challenging but doable for all participants. Mohamed was an excellent cook as well and I always looked forward to his meals. The area was beautiful and the climb to Mt. Toubkal is certainly unforgettable. I'm very glad I choose this tour, especially at this price.
