Situated in southwestern Morocco, in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, climbing Mount Toubkal should be at the top of any enthusiastic trekker’s bucket list!
Rising to 4,167 meters (13,671 feet) in elevation, Toubkal is the highest mountain in all of Morocco and one of the most prominent peaks (36th) on earth. This makes it perhaps the most popular target for trekking and climbing enthusiasts in North Africa.
The fun begins shortly after we meet up in Marrekech and transfer to Imlil, which is the main starting point for hikers heading into the Atlas Mountains. As a result, it has become an interesting and lively market town.
From Imlil, we will begin hiking into the valley and toward the mountains. The first pass we climb is Tizi-n-Mezzik. From here, we will enjoy majestic views back into the valley and out over the Azzaden Valley.
We will descend into the latter and cross this valley, approaching the foot of Toubkal. By the third day, we will begin our ascent of Toubkal, hiking past the gorgeous Ighouliden waterfalls and over the Aguelzim Mountain pass.
Finally, we arrive at base camp and prepare for the ascent the following morning. After an early start and a steep climb, we will arrive at the summit and enjoy panoramic views back is not the mountains as well as out over the seemingly endless Sahara Desert.

Itinerary
Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil
After meeting at our pre-determined location in Marrakech, we will transfer to Imlil.
Day 2: Imlil – Azzaden valley – Refuge Azib Tamsoult
After breakfast, we will begin hiking through the valley and eventually cross over the Tizi-n-Mezzik mountain pass (2489m). After enjoying the views, we will descend into the Azzaden Valley and on to the village of Tamssoult.
Day 3: Azib Tamsoult Refuge – Aguelzim Pass (3,650m) - Refuge du Toubkal
We will spend the day hiking up out of the Azzaden Valley and over the Aguelzim mountain pass (3560m), before continuing on and setting up camp (for an extra fee, it is also possible to stay in a refuge).
Day 4: Base camp - Toubkal Summit (4167m) - Base Camp
We will start early in the morning and head to the summit of Toubkal (4167m). From here, we will descend back down to our camp.
Day 5: Base Camp - Aremd - Imlil- Marrakech
We will hike back toward Imlil, via the villages of Sidi Chamharouche and Armed. From Imlil, we will transfer back to Marrekech.
Day 6: Departure
After breakfast, we will take you to your hotel or the airport in Marrakech.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland.
