Echo Canyon, Half-day hike on Camelback Mountain from Phoenix

Situated 20 minutes outside of downtown Phoenix and rising to 825 meters in elevation, Camelback Mountain is the premier outdoors destination for the Arizona capital!

Over the course of our half-day together, we will head up the Echo Canyon trail en route to the peak’s summit. Of the two trails to the top, this one is slightly shorter, but also quite challenging.

We begin by walking along a dirt trail that leads from the car park to the side of the mountain. Once we reach the mountain’s flank there is nothing but large boulders to scramble over all the rest of the way up.

There are some rails to hold on to parts of the way up, but in other parts there aren’t. While it’s not overly challenging, it does require concentration and endurance.

However, the reward for all the effort is well worth it. Views from the summit are stunning, with 360 panoramic vistas out over Phoenix and Scottsdale as well as out toward the mountains.
