Description

Join me on this Gudauri backcountry ski and splitboarding week, in which I will take you to the best ski touring spots in Georgia. Spend 7 days exploring the amazing Caucasus mountains and enjoy some optional runs in the Gudauri ski resort too.

Located at 2100 meters a.s.l., Gudauri is a great spot for quick and easy access to the best mountains for ski touring in Georgia. On this 1-week adventure, we will transfer you from Tbilisi or Kutaisi to this majestic Caucasus area, and each day I will take you on an amazing ski touring journey. I have been guiding for 6 years in this area, and so I always know where to find the best ski spots. You will love the dry snow in the region and the well-developed Gudauri ski resort too.

The day-by-day program will depend on the weather and snow conditions. The guide will decide on the best mountains to visit each day to prioritize the group’s safety and enjoyment.

You will need to be able to walk between 30 minutes to 4 hours, and you will experience a minimum vertical ascent of 100m, a maximum of 1500m, and a minimum vertical descent of 700m, and a maximum of 1700m.

This trip is suitable for off-piste intermediate, advanced, and expert-level riders!

  • A few months of experience off-piste skiing. Possibly with guides/instructors.

  • Can link several turns in light powder snow on a uniform base

  • Can handle a variety of conditions, including lightly crusted and wind-affected snow.

  • Can put turns in through heavier snow on 35dg slopes.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Gudauri

Driving 2 hours from Tbilisi, 5 hours from Kutaisi. (we will drive you to Gudauri from airports or from any point of Tbilisi and Kutaisi)

Introduction with guides, check the personal equipment, rent the equipment in case you miss something.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Mt. Bidara

Ski tour up to Mt. Bidara (3100m), descent 900 vertical m.

Drive back to Gudauri. *Optional – you can spend the rest of the day on ski resort.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Mt. Dedaena

4X4 drive to Cross Pass(20 minutes) 2350m, here the road is crossing Main Caucasus range which is the geographical border of Europe and Asia. Leave vehicles, ski tour to Mt. Dedaena 3250m, descent 1000 vertical m. Back to the vehicles and drive to Gudauri. *Optional – you can spend the rest of the day at the ski resort. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Mt. Lomisa

4X4 drive to Mleta village (30 minutes) 1450m. Leave vehicles, ski tour to Lomisa monastery 2200m. descent 750 vertical m. Back to the vehicles and drive to Gudauri. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Sioni

4X4 drive to Sioni village (40 minutes). Leave vehicles, ski tour to Mt. Narvani (3120m), 1160 vertical m descent. Back to the vehicles and drive to Gudauri. *Optional – you can spend the rest of the day at the ski resort. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6: Miliona

We’ll take the chair lift to Sadzele (2300m), ski tour to Miliona (3200m), 1200 vertical descent. Meet with the driver and drive back to the Gudauri. *Optional – you can spend the rest of the time at the ski resort. Overnight at hotel.

Day 7: Transfer to agreed location

We will drive you back to airports or any point in Tbilisi and Kutaisi.

I am Mikheil Nadiradze Professional Mountain Guide. I was born in 1991 and live in Tbilisi, Georgia. I started mountaineering from an early age and have not stopped since then. Since 2011, I was studying in ATS (Adventure Tourism School) and at the same time working as a mountain-Helliski-ski tour guide and ski teacher in Caucasus Mountains-Resorts. I was a member of the Georgian Climbing National Federation for many years and have a lot of achievements in competitions. After 2020 I'm fully certified IFMGA/GMGA mountain guide.
