Description

The Lion’s Head mountain rises above the coastal Cape Town, forming a dramatic background to the city.

Capture the stunning coastal scenery of South Africa as the day breaks from the darkness of night.

Part of the larger Table Mountain National Park, Lion’s Head peaks at 669 meters above sea level. The protected area covers rugged mountains, coastline, and rare flora, such as fynbos, which is fully protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Named Lion’s Head during the 17th century, the shape of the rock is said to resemble a lion that is crouching.

Although not the highest mountain in the area, it does offer accessible and breathtaking panoramas of surrounding nature, the buzzing cityscape and the choppy waves of the vast Atlantic Ocean.

We’ll time our hike just right to reach the summit for sunrise, as the sun slips above the city bringing colour to the rugged and rocky landscape.

Watching sunrise unfold from this idyllic vantage point offers a unique and serene experience of seeing the city.

During the 3-hour hike we will have the choice of two paths, which we will choose depending on the level, age and experience of the group.

One route is more adventurous yet exposed with chains and staples, while the other route is easier and less technical. Which means that this hike can be ideal for families.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice.
