Description

Table Mountain hike is a favored hike in Cape Town. And traversing Platteklip Gorge is the easiest and the oldest way to achieve it. Experience stunning views of the Atlantic ocean and Table Bay while exploring the unique terrain of the flat-topped mountain on this half-day hike.

Platteklip Gorge is a steep stair-like route. The path leads up from lower cable station up the northern slopes of Table Mountain. Ascending on a well-maintained path, we’ll come across McCleary Beacon, the highest point on the mountain. You will be rewarded with stunning vistas of the city and Table Bay as you rise.

The route is known for its large, flat chunky rocks and sandstone cliffs. It is a picturesque route covered in fynbos. It does not require any technical equipment and is best suited for people who are scared of heights.

We’ll begin shortly after sunrise. This will help avoid hot slopes during mid-day. As we’ll ascend, we’ll aim to enter the gorge and remain in shadow before the sun comes up.

The route overlooks the city, Table Bay, and Devil’s peak. And ends just across the upper cable station. You’ll be stunned by the spectacular views from the top. We can opt to take a cable ride on our way back, adding more adventure to our trip!
