This 2-day program in Haut Valais is perfect for hikers who have an interest in photography and want to improve their outdoor photographic skills.
During these two days, we’ll hike some of the most beautiful paths in Haut Valais, following ancient water irrigation channels.
We’ll meet at the train station in Brig and get a transfer to Birgisch (1093m). From there, we’ll start our hike towards Gredetschtal. We’ll be following the Obertscha irrigation channel first, and then the Wyssa channel. During this 4 or 5 hour walk to the Salwald cottage, we’ll make several stops to photograph our surroundings and learn about outdoor photography.
I’m a certified mountain guide and professional photographer and we’ll be happy to share my knowledge with you. We’ll talk about speed, light and depth of field and how to adjust these when taking photographs in the outdoors.
During the second day, we’ll discover the village of Finnu and its gorgeous surroundings. From there, we’ll walk down to the south end of the Lötschberg tunnel, via the Eggerberg village. Then, we’ll follow the rails in the direction of Naters, taking photographs along the way. This second day involves 4 or 5 hours of walking as well.
This 2-day hike is technically easy. You do need, however, a reasonable fitness level to be able to walk for several hours everyday.
If this photographic tour sounds interesting, get a group together and contact me to reserve your dates. It will be a pleasure to show you around this beautiful region!

I was born on a freezing day in January, 1956, and that day’s sub-zero temperatures would serve as on omen for my professional life, dedicated to the mountains.
In college, I majored in Engineering and Natural Sciences (glaciology and geophysics), with the goal of understanding the mysterious forces that have sculpted the Earth’s mountains. After graduation, my passion for photography and writing led me to become a reporter specialized on issues related to the mountains.
A father of two, I have relentlessly roamed the vast horizons…of my native Valais, in Switzerland, from the plains to the high summits — always with my camera in hand and my notepad in my pocket. I currently alternate between my work as a journalist and my job as a mountain guide, which provides a delicate balance between body and mind that is essential to my well-being.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
