The islands of Trinidad and Tobago lie just off the coast of Venezuela in the north of South America. Tobago is smaller and rests to the northeast of Trinidad.
A network of trails wind and zigzag their way through mountains and along the coastline, with some offering easy routes for beginners and others more demanding yet rewarding.
Get to grips with nature’s wilder side as you trek and traverse the unmarked and enjoyable costal trails.
We’ll begin in the charming fishing village of Castara on the north coast of Tobago. The hour-long hike heads north and skirts along the edges of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve, one of the oldest protected reserves in the world, packed full of biodiversity.
The trail presents breathtaking views of both the rainforest as well as the coast. For most of the journey you’ll sense a calm isolation, with few fellow travellers crossing trails.
You’ll know when you reach Englishman’s Bay because you’ll be rewarded with incredible views of the crescent bay, where thick rainforest from the reserve billows down to the secluded strip of sandy beach.
