Join us on a spectacular day trip to the active Chacachacare Lighthouse and the beautiful Salt Pond in Trinidad & Tobago! Enjoy an amazing boat ride from Chaguaramas and witness spectacular vistas of the calm sea, gorgeous beaches, and lush green trees as you hike!
Located just a few miles from the coast of Venezuela, Chacachacare is the largest and one of the most beautiful Boca islands. It was originally named El Caracol by Christopher Columbus as its shape is similar to that of a snail!
Because of its balmy weather, historical sites and a fun vibe, this area is popular among tourists all year round.
We’ll begin our trip by taking an interesting boat ride to the Chacachacare island. You’ll enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the blue sea and its vast coastline! If we are lucky, we might even sight playful dolphins on our way.
First, we’ll stop at Bandu Su Bay. From here, we’ll hike for about 15 minutes to reach the Salt Pond.
As the name suggests, Salt Pond is a salty waterbody located on the western end of the island. It falls in a beautiful tropical area and is surrounded by sand. It is so salty that it can be compared to The Dead Sea!
Finally, we’ll head towards the northwestern side of the island. We’ll hike for about 50 mins to reach the Chacachacare Lighthouse(825 ft). Located at the highest point on the island, the lighthouse was built in 1897 and offers outstanding views of the Boca islands.
Thereafter, we’ll swim in the soothing waters of Perruquier Bay to refresh ourselves of the tiring hike!

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
