Description

Live a truly unique experience hiking in the Dominican Republic! We’ll take you on a half-day hike to explore the age-old caves in the remote Los Haitises National Park from Samaná.

Los haitises meaning “hilly land” in Taino language was considered a highland by the Taino people. Stretching over 1,600 km², the park provides beautiful vistas of multiple high rock formations (30m ) mushrooming out of water. Its sinkholes, caverns, and lush mangrove forest along the coast provide a complete adventure package to the hikers.

We’ll begin this beautiful adventure from Sabana de la Mar, departing from the Samaná Bay and reach the Haitises.

Upon reaching, we’ll trek through the green rainforest. You’ll be amazed at the variety of medicinal plants and beautiful birds in the area. And did you know the entertainer- Jurassic Park was shot at one of the locations in this far-away park?

We’ll be able to spot the beautiful Ridgway’s hawk, the Hispaniolan Emerald, herons and pelicans among others. As we’ll complete our journey through the rain forest, we’ll arrive at the magnificent Caño Salado.

After visiting the giant rock formations, we’ll head towards the Caves. These caverns were created due to water erosion. Be prepared to learn about the petroglyphs and ancient drawings from the pre-Columbian era. You’ll have a chance to interpret the age-old Taino artwork!

Next, we’ll take a boat to see the beautiful Cueva de la Arena cave. This 940m long cavern stretches along a cliff to the coast of Samaná Bay and has intriguing pictographs.

Later, we’ll head back to our starting point, having spent an incredible day in the quaint national park.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
