Situated in the remote northeastern region of the Dominican Republic, Los Haitises National Park is one of the top hiking destinations on the entire island of Hispaniola!
The park covers 1.600 square kilometers and is widely considered to be the crown jewel of the whole park system in the DR.
Meaning hilly land in the native Taino language, Los Haitises sits on a limestone karst plateau and boasts mangrove forests, sink holes and conical hills that command incredible views.
After meeting in nearby Sabana del Mar, we will drive to the park entrance and begin our adventure.
Among the many highlights of the trip is hiking up to a scenic vista and looking out over San Lorenzo Bay. From here we will see the various cayes and 30-meter high rocky outcroppings that sit off of the shoreline.
Hiking through the mangrove forests on the river banks as well is quite a treat. Our knowledgable guide will be able to tell you a bit more about these unique trees as well as the rest of the park’s ecology.
Speaking of which, we will also have the chance to see some of the various forms of wildlife that call this place home, including hawks, owls, pelicans and frigate birds.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge.
