Description
Maroon Ridge lies in the northwest of St. Croix. Though it takes less than an hour to reach the summit, your guide will need every minute to tell you about the culture and wildlife of this historically significant area.
Africans who escaped enslavement on the island took refuge in the secluded hills of Maroon Ridge. They couldn’t settle down as they were pursued by militias. They were referred to as maroons, which is how the hill gets its name. Today there are still modern-day maroons living there.
Expect to pause frequently on the hike so that your naturalist guide can point out species of medicinal plants, butterflies and unique lichen. You may also be graced by the company of wild goats.
There’s a lighthouse on the summit of Maroon Ridge, and although it’s quite dilapidated, the foundation is a perfectly good place to relax and enjoy the views of the lush mountain.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland.
