Japan is one of the world’s most distinctive ski touring destinations, known for its extraordinary snow quality, deep winter landscapes, and rich cultural contrasts. On the northern island of Hokkaido, storms from Siberia bring light, dry powder that has made the region famous among ski tourers and freeriders from around the world.
This 10-day ski touring trip with Muntania combines 8 days of mountain activity with the cultural experience of traveling through Japan in winter. The program focuses on two key areas of Hokkaido: Niseko, home to Mount Yotei, also known as the “Mount Fuji of the North”, and Furano, the gateway to Daisetsuzan National Park and Mount Asahidake, the highest peak in Hokkaido.
During the trip, you will ski a mix of open slopes, forest terrain, volcanic landscapes, and powder itineraries chosen according to the weather, snow conditions, and group level. The plan includes several ski touring days around Niseko, with the possibility of ascending Mount Yotei and skiing different aspects of the mountain, as well as three days in the Furano area, including Mount Asahidake, Tokachidake, and Furano Dake.
The experience goes far beyond the skiing. After long days in the snow, you can relax in traditional Japanese onsens, enjoy local food such as sushi, ramen, tempura, and other regional dishes, and discover the quiet hospitality of Hokkaido’s winter towns. Accommodation includes stays in Niseko, Furano, and near New Chitose Airport, making the logistics comfortable while keeping the focus on the mountain.
This trip is designed for ski tourers with previous experience, good off-piste technique, and the ability to ski powder in open terrain and among trees. The descents are not extreme, but participants should feel confident skiing varied snow and medium-angle slopes.
Send a request to join Muntania for a unique ski touring week in Hokkaido, where deep powder, volcanic peaks, Japanese culture, and warm onsens come together in one unforgettable winter journey.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
