Kalymnos Rock Climbing Camp: Beginner and Intermediate

Kalymnos is a beautiful remote island in the Dodecanese and the perfect rock climbing getaway. It is home to some of the most aesthetic climbing routes and limestone crags in a relaxed holiday atmosphere with welcoming Greek hospitality!

On this 1-week rock climbing camp, beginner and intermediate climbers will enjoy some time in the sun and out on the rocks improving their movement repertoire and mental approach to climbing.

The climbing camp will consist of 5 sports climbing days in some of the best crags in Kalymnos: Kasteli, Afternoon, Simplegades, Telendos (Lambda), and School.

What you will learn:

⦁ Technique for more efficient climbing: back-step, drop-knee, high step, gaston, inside flag, outside flag, toe-hook, heel-hook, smearing.

⦁ Proper footwork to maximize your efficiency on the rock.

⦁ Choosing the right climbing gear for your needs and how to use it safely.

⦁ Belaying on top rope and learning how to set a correct top-rope yourself.

⦁ How to lead climb and lead belay.

⦁ Correct communication practice at the crag between the belayer and leader.

⦁ Making good use of climbing guidebooks.

⦁ Cleaning the routes to safely retrieve your gear.

⦁ Footwork on slabs, vertical walls, and overhangs (steep walls).

⦁ Learning how to rest during the climb.

⦁ Route reading: Establish your climbing plan & find the right beta/solution for the entire route.

We are a fun group of passionate people, who travel around the world (most of the time in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey) to experience the joy of climbing, to learn more about ourselves, other people, and other places.

Doru, the main instructor of the camp has 32 years of experience, starting with 1985 (Alpinism) and 1995 (Sport Climbing). In Sport Climbing, he has climbed routes up to 8a and on-sighted 7b+. He started to teach/coach sports climbing and bouldering back in 2013.

Valentina, the younger coach, has been climbing passionately for the past 17 years and loves spending a few months each year on the rock faces of Geyikbayiri/Turkey, Kalymnos/Greece, and Frankenjura/Germany. Valentina has sport climbed hundreds of routes up to 8a (9+/10- UIAA) and is continually looking for the next challenge. Her aim is to instill the love of climbing in her students.

Climbing is all about having fun with friends out in nature, on the rocks, stepping out of your comfort zone in order to discover your strengths, weaknesses and values! Climbing will bring a big smile to your face, a spark in your eyes, and many amazing memories.
