Climbing Kilimanjaro is a once in a lifetime opportunity and this is your chance. Join one of our experienced guides over six days as we make our way to the summit via the Umbwe route.
This is probably the hardest route up the mountain. If you’re looking for a challenge then the Umbwe Route is it. The ascent is steep and arduous. We’ll spend six days trekking and on the summit day, we’ll spend 10 hours trekking. There will even be some scrambling involved on one of the days. On this route, there is also less time for acclimatization so we really only recommend it for more experienced hikers or mountaineers.
As well as the feeling of accomplishment you’ll get when you reach the top, you’ll also be able to enjoy the stunning sights of the area on the way up. The views of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks are unbeatable and you’ll also get to take in views of several surrounding glaciers. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy the rich flora like the Senecio and Lobelia plants.
What are you waiting for? Get in touch today and secure your spot on this Kilimanjaro experience.
If you’re looking for a slightly less demanding expedition, take a look at our 7-day climb to the summit along the Rongai Route.
We’ll pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your hotel. There you’ll meet your guide and together you’ll review your gear to check you have everything you need.
This is day one of your hike and we’ll head to Umbwe Gate early. There you’ll meet your porters, guides, and cooks who will spend the next six days with you. You’ll sign in before starting your trek to Cave Bivouac Camp. This trek will take six hours and you’ll follow a steep path through moss-covered trees in Kilimanjaro’s cloud forest.
You’ll hike towards Barranco camp on your second day hiking. Barranco is one of the most scenic camps on this route. It’s surrounding by giant senecio and lobelias. You’ll hike for around seven hours this day.
This day will involve a scramble up Barranco Wall. This is hard but you won’t hike for longer than five hours. You’ll end your day in Karanga Valley at 4,200 meters.
On your fourth day of hiking you’ll pass several of Kibo’s glaciers to get to Bafafu camp at 4,600 meters. You’ll get an early night ahead of summit day.
Your fifth day of hiking is summit day! You’ll start bright and early at 12 am and you’ll reach the summit (Uhuru Peak 5,895 meters) around six hours later. From the top you’ll have time to take photos and enjoy your achievement before we head down again to Barafu for breakfast. We’ll then go all the way to Mweka at 3,100 meters.
You’ll finish your experience with a hike to Mweka gate where we’ll pick you up and take you back to Moshi.
